After having been on the market for just over a year now, the Nintendo Switch has managed to become one of the gaming world's most coveted pieces of hardware, with the industry analysts predicting that the system's sales will reach 40 million in just four years' time. Be that as it may, one fan of recently decided to make their own improvements to the Big N's already successful design for the console by creating a supersized version of the hardware.

As seen below in the video from the YouTuber known as "My Mate VINCE", the Nintendo Switch fan shows off his interpretation of what an "XL" iteration of the console would look like with a prototype version of the system allowing one to play in handheld and table top mode in 1080p on a much larger screen. The whole setup is rather impressive for a proof of concept, but perhaps most noteworthy is how he managed to make sure that the JoyCons could be snapped on and removed by utilizing controller grips attached to the side of the monitor.

In order to make his version of the Nintendo Switch XL work, My Mate Vince was able to put the supersized version of the system together by using a 15.5 inch monitor, with everything being connected via USB cables. All of the components were able to be affixed onto the back with the help of some Velcro, and he used portable batteries to keep both the monitor and the Switch dock running off different levels of voltage.

While My Mate Vince's mockup for a Nintendo Switch XL looks decidedly nifty on the surface, it undermines one of the system's most popular aspects – that is, its portability. Due to the sheer size of the monitor, it would be difficult to imagine many carrying it around with them for some gaming on the go, as it appears to be rather unwieldy. Even so, though, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild definitely looks great running on the homemade rig.

The Nintendo Switch is available now.
