The Nintendo Switch released three years ago today on March 3rd, 2017, and to celebrate Nintendo released update 9.2. Along with the lack of fanfare over the Switch's three-year anniversary, the update doesn't really seem to add anything new.
Update 9.2, which will automatically be downloaded the next time someone tries to use the Nintendo eShop, doesn't bring any new elements to the Nintendo Switch. According to Nintendo, this update includes "general system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience," and that's it.
Along with being automatically downloaded when trying to use the eShop or other online services, Nintendo Switch owners can also manually download the update from the System Settings menu. The previous firmware update, version 9.1, was released back in December. That update also included general stability improvements, as well as a fix for an issue in which the color animation would not display correctly when attaching a Joy-Con controller to the console. At least Switch owners will have a more stable gaming experience while playing some of the best games of 2019.
It's possible there's some hidden feature in this update that isn't being advertised, but it's unlikely. Nintendo tends to release several updates for the Switch each year, but most of them don't include any major new features. In the meanwhile, Switch owners can still get hyped for all the great games coming to the system in March 2020. This month will see the release of both Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX and the much-anticipated Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
In other Nintendo news, it seems the gaming company is in some hot water after a new report from the Australian Strategic Policy Institute revealed that it may have potentially benefitted from China's re-education camps. The report claims that Nintendo, along with fellow console makers Sony and Microsoft, may have benefitted from the forced labor the prisoners are subjected to, either directly or indirectly. Apple, another tech company implied to have benefitted from these re-education camps, released a statement saying it was unaware of the forced labor. Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft have yet to release a statement addressing this report.
Now that Sonic the Hedgehog and Detective Pikachu have proven that video game movies can actually be decent, fans are actually looking forward to new video game movies. According to a recent poll, it seems the most wanted movie adaptation is for the Super Mario Bros. franchise. As long as Nintendo doesn't let Hollywood make another live-action cyberpunk/unfunny comedy like they did back in 1993, it probably won't turn out that bad (probably).
