Gamers that have recently picked up a Nintendo Switch may want to get an SD card to fill it up with digitally downloaded titles from the eShop. However, before doing so, Switch owners will want to know where the MicroSD card slot even is on the console.

The Nintendo Switch has built-in internal storage of 32 GB for the base model and the Lite version and 64 GB for the OLED model. While that’s more than enough to hold a few games, it’s not the best. Those who find themselves picking up new releases and returning to a game like Fortnite or Pokemon Unite can easily find themselves struggling to make room for a big update.

Adding a microSD card to the mix can easily multiply the available storage for any model of the Nintendo Switch. Each version has its own place for where to insert the microSD card, but it isn’t hard to access any of them.

Where is the MicroSD Slot on Nintendo Switch?

On the original version of the Nintendo Switch, the microSD slot can be found on the back at the bottom, beneath the kickstand. The slot can be found near the very bottom of the Switch console. The MicroSD card just needs to be pushed in until a click is felt. After, the card is snapped and can be popped out by just pushing it in again.

The original Nintendo Switch has a small, plastic kickstand that can be used to prop up the console to allow for play with a controller while in handheld mode. The kickstand also happens to double as a cover for the MicroSD slot. The Nintendo Switch OLED Model is conceptually similar, but the differences between the two models necessitate a different solution.

Where is the MicroSD Slot on Nintendo Switch OLED Model?

The MicroSD card slot on the Nintendo Switch OLED model can be found on the back of the console near the bottom of the unit. Once the card is fully inserted, a click will be felt. The microSD card can be removed by pressing it in slightly until it clicks, which then allows it to be slid out.

The original Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch OLED Model both have a kickstand, but the OLED Model’s is significantly larger, running the entire length of the console. The microSD card functions the same way, with the only notable difference being that the card is inserted horizontally, parallel to the bottom of the console, rather than vertically into the console. Outside that, the process is the same.

The MicroSD card slot on a Nintendo Switch Lite is on the back, on the bottom left. It is covered by a small silicon flap that can be popped open at any time.

The Nintendo Switch Lite is the only model of Switch that doesn’t have a kickstand. This is due to the fact that the console is meant to be a dedicated handheld device without a docked mode. Despite those differences, the location of the Nintendo Switch Lite’s MicroSD slot is quite similar to the original Switch model.
