The Nintendo Switch Online service has added seven NES games to the service, with one previously being a Japan-only title. These games are some of the last remaining titles from the NES' library that have yet to be added to the Nintendo Switch Online service. The seven games include Urban Champion, Golf, Cobra Triangle, Solar Jetman, Mach Rider, Donkey Kong Jr. Math, and The Mystery of Atlantis, which is also being brought to the West for the very first time through Nintendo Switch Online.

The Nintendo Switch Online's library of classic titles continues to expand through regular free updates. This service gives subscribers the chance to play a variety of classic games, some having the benefit of online multiplayer. While the library started with NES and SNES titles, the library has now expanded to include releases from the Game Boy, N64, Sega Genesis, and Game Boy Advance platforms. While Nintendo has mostly been focusing on filling out the Game Boy and Game Boy Advance libraries on NSO, there has been the occasional surprise update that adds older games.

In the latest Nintendo Direct, two new N64 games were added to Nintendo Switch Online's Expansion Pack in a new 'Mature Collection'.

A new trailer from Nintendo reveals that these seven games have been added to the service and are available to play right now. These games are a mixture of first-party and third-party developed classics. One first-party title is Golf, and it was one of the best-selling sports games on the system. The Nintendo Switch had a hidden version of Golf that was playable as an Easter Egg as a tribute to the late Satoru Iwata, as he programmed the game. Mach Rider is a game that was developed by Hal Laboratory and published by Nintendo, which has the player controlling a biker as they fight off the forces of evil and save people. Urban Champion was also included, and is notable for being one of the first fighting games on the system.

Nintendo Switch Online - July 2024 Update Titles

  • Urban Champion
  • Golf
  • Mach Rider
  • Cobra Triangle
  • Solar Jetman
  • The Mystery of Atlantis
  • Donkey Kong Jr. Math

The other games included in this update are rather relatively obscure titles that were developed by Rare, before the company became famous for games like Battletoads and Donkey Kong Country. These would be Cobra Triangle, an action racing game where the player controls a speedboat equipped with weapons to complete 25 levels, and Solar Jetman, where the player maneuvers around space in a small spaceship.

Sunsoft's The Mystery Of Atlantis has also been released in the West for the first time. In this game, the player controls an adventurer who travels through 101 levels to save his master who has been trapped in the titular city. The game that surprised a lot of fans was Donkey Kong Jr. Math, an edutainment game in the Donkey Kong series that was panned critically by reviewers. With DK Jr. Math's addition, some joked that Nintendo is finally running out of NES games to re-release if Nintendo is adding this game to the service.
