Like its title suggests, the primary function of Nintendo Switch Online is to provide gamers with an online service for their consoles. However, the secondary benefit of Nintendo Switch Online provides gamers with classic Nintendo titles, and a rumor says that Game Boy Advance titles will soon be joining the program.

Fans have discussed a possible Nintendo Switch Online expansion for some time, often pointing to the addition of Nintendo 64 and Game Boy Advance games as a strong avenue for Nintendo to take. It seems that the Japanese giant may have listened to some of those requests after all, as the Game Boy Advance platform could be seeing its games come to Nintendo Switch Online if a recent rumor proves true. However, it should be noted that the person behind this Game Boy Advance “leak” has no track record for leaks in the past, meaning gamers should take this claim with a massive grain of salt.

Despite having no real post history to speak of on ResetEra, Spyder_Monkey claimed that popular Game Boy Advance games would soon be coming to the Nintendo Switch Online program. With the user lacking previous predictions to support the bold claim, as well as keeping full anonymity, other ResetEra users were quick to question the validity of Spyder_Monkey’s claims. Despite the questions and doubts, Spyder_Monkey doubled down on their prediction.

What makes Spyder_Monkey’s Game Boyu Advance prediction particularly interesting is the date that came with it. The user claims that the news would be announced by Nintendo “Tuesday,” which means that a reveal for the Game Boy Advance’s addition to Nintendo Switch Online should come later today. If Spyder_Monkey was trolling, providing such a close date to the original post would ensure everyone calls them out for the lies. With numerous Game Boy games being great fits for the Nintendo Switch, it would be hard to blame fans for having hope sparked by this rumor.

As it turns out, while there is plenty working against Spyder_Monkey’s leak being legitimate, there is a bit of evidence working in favor of the anonymous poster. ResetEra user The Poochy Kid that the recent Nintendo Switch update added “major version updates” for Nintendo Switch Online. Oddly enough, though, nothing seems to be different regarding the UI or content of the program. With “every prior x.0 update on the NES app” adding new features, Nintendo may have snuck in support for Game Boy games that can be unlocked after the reveal.

While there are still plenty of reasons to doubt this rumor, it appears there is some smoke to the fire as well. While a reveal is certainly not guaranteed for long time Nintendo fans, keeping an eye on the news for the rest of the day could be a good idea.
