Nintendo has officially revealed a new Nintendo Switch console model that gives the OLED a Super Mario-themed makeover. Nintendo often pairs its biggest releases with new Switch console models, a strategy that seems to have paid off big time.

The Nintendo Switch is currently the third best-selling video game console of all time, just beyond the Nintendo DS and PlayStation 2. The various Switch models have certainly helped Nintendo achieve this feat, with the Big N offering the regular Switch, the Switch Lite, and the Switch OLED. The Switch OLED is the premium version of Nintendo's console, offering a sleeker screen that makes the colorful games in its library really pop.

Nintendo has released special versions of the Switch OLED over the years, giving hardcore fans the excuse to double-dip and pick up the specially-themed consoles. The next Switch OLED model will come in a bright red color and be available to the masses on October 6. This Mario Red Edition of the Switch OLED features various nods to Nintendo's blockbuster Super Mario franchise, including a silhouette of Mario and some "hidden coins" on its dock. The console is expected to retail for $349.99 and does not come with Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which may disappoint some fans.

This new Switch OLED model leaked online ahead of Nintendo's official announcement, so many fans already knew what to expect. However, this is the first time that fans are able to see it for themselves. The bright red Switch docking station and the matching Joy-Cons look great, and Super Mario fans will likely still get a kick out of the little nods to the franchise on the system, even if some may not be happy that Super Mario Bros. Wonder isn't bundled with it.

Nintendo revealed the new Mario Red Edition Switch OLED console at the tail-end of its latest Nintendo Direct presentation, which was otherwise focused entirely on the Super Mario Bros. Wonder game. The presentation revealed all kinds of interesting details about Super Mario Bros. Wonder, clueing fans in on its story, power-ups, and the playable characters they have to choose from come launch. It also explained Super Mario Bros. Wonder's online features, which will allow players to help out others playing the game online. While the Mario Red Edition Switch OLED console launches on October 6, the Super Mario Bros. Wonder release date isn't until October 20, so franchise fans should keep that in mind.
