Nintendo Switch Online is certainly a divisive service, to say the least. While the included NES games, SNES games, and special offer games such as Pac-Man 99 are enjoyed by many, the overall subscription still leaves much to be desired in other respects. Fortunately, a member-exclusive discount has popped up for one Nintendo Switch accessory, giving subscribers at least one more temporary new perk.

Upon the launch of the Nintendo Switch Online service, a plethora of Nintendo Entertainment System games became available for members to easily play. Shortly after this, Nintendo also released an authentic set of Nintendo Switch controllers based off of the iconic NES controller. These controllers could be used to authentically experience the NES library on Switch, and when done, players can slide them into the system like a Joy-Con to easily recharge them.

The Switch NES controllers are available for a temporary 30% discount, priced at $41.99 instead of the usual $59.99. The controllers are usually only available to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, so likewise, this discount is member-exclusive as well. Now is likely a good time to pick up these sets for one's collection, although be warned, each Nintendo account can only purchase up to four sets of controllers.

Nintendo Switch Online NES controllers at discount

This isn't the first time that the NES controllers for Nintendo Switch have gone on sale. Late last year, European subscribers could order the collectible for an even steeper 50% off, bringing the price down to approximately $30 when converted to USD. While the current 30% discount isn't as extreme, it is still helpful to any fan who might be late to picking up this set. As the package comes with two different controllers, each approximately costs $20 when factoring in the discount, which is not too bad of a deal at all.

One of the pillars promised upon the launch of Nintendo Switch Online was exclusive items or discounts, but these have been very few and far between. The NES controllers and the SNES controller are the only items of this sort, but in fairness, they are still high-quality products that fit nicely into any hardcore Nintendo fan's collection. A temporary discount may not be a major subscriber perk, but it is still something to keep fans satisfied until the next NSO game update.

Of course, Nintendo still has a long way to go when it comes to improving the reputation of its online service. Even at the fairly small $20 a year price, some fans do not think it's worth the asking price. Hopefully, Nintendo has more hidden up its sleeve to its online, both within their games and beyond.
