One of the Nintendo Switch's most acclaimed indie titles, Inside, has been discounted by a significant amount for a limited time. In addition to Inside, Playdead Games' first published game, Limbo, received the same deep discount. With their price drops, both of these games can be obtained for only a fraction of the cost of some of Nintendo's first-party titles.
The discount came just a few days after the June 21 Nintendo Direct broadcast, which was headlined by games such as Pikmin 4, Super Mario RPG, and Super Mario Bros. Wonder. While none of those titles will carry the $69.99 price tag that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom does, they will each bear the standard price of $59.99 at launch. With the current discount, Switch owners could in theory purchase Inside nearly 30 times over.
Until the sale ends on July 10, Inside is available for $1.99 each on the Nintendo eShop, which is a 90% discount from the original price. Those looking to purchase Inside will need to have at least 1.5 GB of storage available on either the system or a microSD card. The same discount also applies to Limbo and it matches a similar deal on the Nintendo eShop that lasted until May 21. As was the case before, the discounts for both Limbo and Inside are not part of any particular sale at the time of writing. However, savvy Nintendo eShop users will be able to use up to 200 Gold Coins to either get Inside at no additional cost or for an even deeper discount than the $1.99 price tag. Gold Coins are accumulated by purchasing games on the Nintendo eShop, with more expensive titles such as Tears of the Kingdom granting more Gold Coins.
As the second title from Danish developer Playdead Games, Inside was released in 2016 and is considered one of the most critically-acclaimed puzzle platformers of all time. But, Inside is not for the faint of heart, as its M-rating is due to the bloody and gory deaths that the player character, simply called The Boy, can suffer when exploring the unsettling and scary environment. Due to its monochromatic atmosphere, dark art style, and minimalist sound design, critics gave Inside an impressive rating of 91 on OpenCritic.
Though Playdead Games has remained tight-lipped about what its third game is going to be, it will use Unreal Engine 5 after the developers inked a publishing deal with Epic Games in 2020. Only time will tell when Playdead Games will reveal more details about the project.
Inside is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
