Gothic 2 Complete Classic is now available on the Nintendo Switch. The first-ever port of the iconic RPG was announced for the Switch back in October.

This launch coincides with the 21st anniversary of Gothic 2's original release. The 2002 debut of Piranha Bytes' seminal RPG was limited to the studio's home country of Germany, while its English version only hit the market in the second half of 2003. Although neither the game nor its predecessor were particularly successful in the West, both were huge in Poland, as underlined by the fact that Warsaw-based CD Projekt Red previously labeled the first two Gothic titles as big influences on The Witcher series.

Gothic Remake Won't Be Like 2019 Teaser

According to Alkimia Interactive, the upcoming Gothic remake will be more in line with the original compared to the playable teaser from 2019.

More than two decades since its launch, Gothic 2 is now playable on the Switch, courtesy of THQ Nordic. This re-release is officially titled Gothic 2 Complete Classic, presumably to differentiate itself from the vanilla game that the fandom commonly refers to as the "classic" Gothic 2. Much like its wordy moniker suggests, the Switch game comes bundled with the 2003 Night of the Raven expansion that introduces a couple dozen hours of additional content to the RPG, on top of making its overall experience much more punishing.

Aside from the digital version of Gothic 2 that can be picked up via the eShop, the game's port to Nintendo's hybrid console has also been treated to a physical release. The former is priced at $29.99, while the latter retails at €29.99 (~$33) on account of only being available via the European version of the THQ Nordic Store. That said, the online storefront does offer international delivery, with its U.S. shipping costs ranging from $5 to $10, depending on the state, based on Game ZXC's limited checkout testing. THQ Nordic is also selling a limited-edition Exclusive Set bundle that combines the physical version of Gothic 2 Complete Classic with a tri-fold wallet featuring The Sleeper from the first Gothic.

The Switch port of the original Gothic that was released back in late September was credited to Elverils, a Saint Petersburg studio best known for its work on ports of numerous Piranha Bytes and Larian Studios titles, including Elex 2 and Baldur's Gate 3. Meanwhile, Barcelona-based Alkimia Interactive that's currently working on the Gothic remake was given secondary developer credit. The same is presumably also the case with the Switch version of Gothic 2.

While the Switch ports of the first two entries in the franchise arrived in quick succession, there's no indication that Gothic 3 is ever planned to reach Nintendo's console. Meanwhile, Alkimia's Gothic remake was recently confirmed to be targeting a 2024 release window, although that particular title won't be coming to the Switch.
