There are a multitude of Nintendo Switch controllers whose button layouts resemble the GameCube's. Ironically, there are only a handful that share the GameCube's color scheme, though, making this fan's custom Switch controllers all the more impressive.

Nintendo's relationship to the GameCube has been pretty strange in recent years, at times remembering it fondly and in others forgetting it exists entirely. For example, Nintendo added GameCube controller support to Super Mario Sunshine in the Super Mario 3D All-Stars pack, either through the GameCube controller dongle, or through a USB GameCube Pro Controller. While a nice gesture, it was one of the few things that GameCube fans would get as there doesn't seem to be any sort of GameCube Virtual Console, or remaster of a beloved GameCube title on the way. Fans will just have to continue enjoying the Mario and Zelda-themed GameCube controllers until something special comes along.

Reddit user LestatsMods has shared a look at their series of GameCube-inspired Switch controllers. In the image posted to gaming subreddit, LestatsMods shows off their modded Switch Pro Controller, Joy-Con Controller, Switch Lite, and base Switch console, all designed by hand to look like extensions of the GameCube. LestatsMods nails all the essential details, like the iconic purple color, the green and red "A" and "B" buttons respectively, the tiny yellow C-stick, and even the one purple "Z" button on the top right shoulder.

This collection of modded accessories joins a larger family of Switch controller edits made by GameCube fans. One fan created GameCube Joy-Cons that look like a controller was sawed in half, docking to the console like any regular Joy-Con would.

Other modders have attempted something more along the lines of LestatsMods, taking an already existent Joy-Con controller and adding the color specific components like the yellow C-stick. One has to wonder how long it took LestasMods to make these peripherals, especially the modifications to the regular Switch chassis and the Switch Lite.

The people in LestatsMods' comment section offer a great deal praise for their work, some needing the clarification that they actually modded it themselves. If Nintendo were to sell something like LestatsMods' work officially, it would most likely be quite the hot commodity. It brings to mind the coveted and now very expensive SNES Edition 3DS XL that Nintendo released many years ago, outfitted with special decals on the inside and out that made it look like that classic console. There are a good deal of exclusive Switch models already out there, but one based on the GameCube could become the most sought after of them all.
