Nintendo has released a brand-new update for its Switch console that users can download right now. Nintendo has released numerous updates for the Switch since launching the console in 2016. These updates have ranged in scope. Sometimes the Switch console updates are pretty basic and only get vague patch notes, but other times they add notable new features for users to check out.

Most of the time, Switch console updates are released with patch notes that simply state that it is making "general system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience." These patch notes don't really give fans any solid idea of what the updates even do, but other times, the Switch updates add something a little more substantial. Over 100 million Nintendo Switch consoles have been sold to date, and so it's no surprise Nintendo is still releasing updates to improve the device. However, there are those who are anxious to learn about the rumored Switch 2 console. Nintendo has not announced the Switch 2 yet, but many are anticipating the reveal to take place at some point within the next six months in anticipation of a 2025 release.

Even after the Switch 2 is eventually released to the masses, fans can count on Nintendo continuing to release new updates for the existing Switch. Nintendo is known for supporting its platforms years after their release, though it's also known for eventually shutting them down, as is the case with the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.
