Nintendo has been creating a lot of commercials to advertise the Nintendo Switch console during the holiday season. In November, Nintendo released a new Switch commercial starring actress Awkwafina that showcased the unique capabilities of Nintendo’s latest hybrid console.

Now, Nintendo has released another Nintendo Switch commercial centering around another famous female celebrity. This time, Serena Williams is the focus of Nintendo’s latest Switch ad, which showcases a variety of the Switch’s fitness and sports-themed titles.

The commercial opens with Serena Williams playing Mario Tennis Aces in the Switch’s handheld mode. Though, it’s no coincidence that Williams was playing Mario Tennis Aces, as the famous tennis players and her sister have a prior history with the Switch title. The two sisters participated in the Stay at Home Slam charity event back in April, which centered around Mario Tennis Aces doubles. After Williams showcases Mario Tennis Aces, she receives a phone call from her personal trainer.

Williams is asked to warm up before their session, and she promptly starts playing Just Dance 2020 on Switch. After her training joins in on the Just Dance 2020 warm-up session, Williams and her trainer compete in a round of Fitness Boxing using the JoyCon controllers. Finally, the commercial caps itself off with one more look at Mario Tennis Aces. The pairing of Williams and the Switch’s various fitness titles is a very wise marketing decision, considering what a high-level athlete Williams is.

It just goes to show how much thought Nintendo’s PR and marketing departments put in when it comes to casting for these Switch commercials. Especially considering Brie Larson was also featured in one earlier in November as well, playing other popular Switch titles like Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This trio of commercials absolutely covers all of the aspects that make Switch an appealing console, for hardcore and casual players alike. The commercials also appeal to a broad demographic, featuring figures of various ethnicities and genders alike.

Though some of the celebrities that these commercials have centered around haven’t been very outspoken about their love of games, one particular actress has been. Brie Larson has openly talked about her love of video games numerous times in the past. In fact, Larson will be at the Game Awards 2020 live show, presenting one of the awards. It’s always nice to see popular figures expressing their love of games alongside the rest of us. Anything that furthers video games in the realm of mainstream popularity is always a net positive for the industry, and these recent Nintendo Switch commercials are a great example of that.
