Nintendo has recently given more details about the upcoming Switch game Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, specifically why Bowser appears to have such fury in the first place. In the new addition to the game, Bowser has been tainted by a "mysterious black goop" which has turned him into a huge beast. Mario and his unlikely teammate Bowser Jr. must work together and travel across the islands of Lake Lapcat.

Mario must harness the power of the "Cat Shines" to help defeat this rather ferociously huge version of his old nemesis, while Bowser Jr. is hoping to save his dad from the curse. Players must also keep an eye on the "Fury Sun," which is influenced by the weather. This means Bowser can summon meteors from the sky, so that'll be the time when Mario will want to get a move on. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is looking like it will bring a lot to the table, despite the title being a bit of a mouthful.

If Mario collects all the Cat Shines on an island, he'll be able to activate the "Giga Bell," which transforms him into Giga Cat Mario, in which he'll be able to do battle with the furious Bowser. If players defeat him in this transformed state, Bowser will be knocked back into the water and new islands will be unlocked to explore. It's the old classic good vs. evil fans have come to expect from their Mario games.

It was also revealed recently that Switch users won't have to worry about low storage space if they wish to play Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury. While the Switch version will be understandably bigger than the Wii U version, the game will only take up around 2.9GB of space, which is much smaller than something like Super Mario Odyssey.

With the main game originally releasing on Wii U in 2013, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury was announced during last September's Super Mario 35th Anniversary Direct broadcast, and will be a Switch exclusive due out in February. There will also be new Amiibo figures of Cat Mario and Cat Peach, which will be released at the same time. It may also interest fans to know that despite being part of the main game, Bowser's Fury won't need to be unlocked. Players can get straight into it without having played Super Mario 3D World first.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury will launch on February 12 for the Nintendo Switch.
