Miitopia will arrive on the Nintendo Switch in only a few weeks. But fans can get an early taste of the wacky RPG that utilizes Miis right now. Nintendo just announced that a demo for Miitopia on Switch is available for download.

Nintendo's Tomodachi Life-like role-playing game originally launched on the 3DS in 2016. Game ZXC reviewed Miitopia at the time and gave it a 3 out of 5, noting that the game is unique and accessible but perhaps lacking in depth. The Nintendo Switch version will have updated features, however, and players will be able to test out some of that with the newly announced demo.

The official Nintendo of America Twitter page revealed that Miitopia is available to pre-order now for $49.99 USD (more than what the 3DS version cost) and that the free demo is available now to download. Along with starting out in the adventure towards bringing down the Dark Lord, the demo also supports transferring save data to the full version. This means that if players enjoy the demo and purchase Miitopia, all progress will carry over on May 21, 2021, when it releases.

The goofy comedy, wild customizations, and ability to cast friends and family via the Miis in Miitopia all adds up to an experience that is unlike many RPGs out there. While the game is certainly a far cry from the dark and dismal role-playing games like Demon's Souls or deep and complex ones like The Witcher, its whimsical and family-friendly nature provides something unique. Nintendo delivering a demo to allow players to test this out is something that makes a lot of sense.

Miitopia is set to launch for the Nintendo Switch on May 21, 2021.
