Nintendo has officially revealed LEGO Luigi, a new Starter Course headed to retail later this year. Positioned as the latest in an ongoing line of collaborations, the bundle is dedicated solely to Mario's taller, slimmer sibling and contains all the pieces necessary to bring the mascot to life in block form.

LEGO Luigi will be the first set in the series (not including the LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System released at the tail end of last year) to be released following 2020's LEGO Super Mario and comes with several additional figures (including an adorable pink Yoshi) and features. Indeed, as was the case for Mario, Luigi has room to accommodate two AAA batteries, which powers an LCD screen on his chest. The images displayed here - and sounds emitted through an in-built speaker - alternate depending on what the character interacts with and can even react to movement.

Nintendo's announcement promises all-new interactions not available in the previous release, with those who pick up the expansion able to build their own assault course to traverse, itself designed to mimic side-scrolling stages found in the classic games. As expected, various obstacles will prevent smooth sailing from start to finish, including hazardous rotating platforms and Bowzer's mischievous minions, all of which are showcased below.

All told, LEGO Luigi consists of 280 pieces, including "nougat-brown-colored" bricks, which denote the Tower biome, all triggering varying reactions from the co-star of Nintendo's flagship franchise. Able to be dismantled and rebuilt at will, product descriptions also confirm that this particular Starter Course can be combined and integrated with that of Mario's popular debut in the toy range. More creatively-minded players who own both are encouraged to mix and match both sets to create their own challenging levels for the pair to traverse, either solo or together.

As far as cost is concerned, Adventures With Luigi will set customers back a cool $59.99 which, while costly, is a largely standard price for items manufactured by the Denmark-based company. The premium (it's often worth waiting for discounts) that the brand fetches alone has often proven to be a deterrent for folks simply in the market to secure a thoughtful gift which, in this case, is marketed for children ages 6 and up.

LEGO has yet to confirm which resident of the Mushroom Kingdom will be next in line to join the fun or, for that matter, if there are even plans for more, though popularity certainly dictates that Mario will be returning in cube form, with at least eight expansion sets scheduled to arrive in the future.

LEGO Luigi is scheduled to release August 1st, 2021.
