2024 is looking to be a rather busy year for Nintendo fans. While highly-anticipated titles like Metroid Prime 4 are rumored to release at some point next year, there are plenty of games that have been confirmed to come out in 2024 - particularly after the most recent Nintendo Direct.
With rumors and speculation swirling about Nintendo's next console, often referred to as the Switch 2, many gamers have been wondering what the future holds for the famous Japanese gaming titan. During the latest Nintendo Direct, fans got to enjoy a handful of new reveals, alongside showcases for upcoming games that have been revealed in the past. Some of these upcoming titles are remakes or remasters, while others are new entries in beloved franchises or spin-offs. Unsurprisingly, there were a number of third-party games unveiled as well. However, players who are more interested in exclusive Nintendo games like Super Mario RPG have plenty to look forward to in the next 12 months and beyond.
Another Code: Recollection - January 19
Nintendo's 2024 will kick off with Another Code: Recollection, a bundle featuring remakes of Another Code: Trace Memories and Another Code: R - A Journey into Lost Memories. These classic point-and-click mystery games follow teenage girl Ashley as she ventures to various enigmatic, eerie locations in search of answers regarding her father and mother. Trace Memories was originally released on the Nintendo DS, with A Journey into Lost Memories following it on the Nintendo Wii (exclusively in Japan). Though short-lived, the franchise has a loyal fanbase, with many considering Trace Memories to be an essential game for the Nintendo DS.
Mario vs. Donkey Kong Remake - February 16
Like the Super Mario RPG remake and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening remake before it, the classic GBA game Mario vs. Donkey Kong will be completely rebuilt for the Nintendo Switch, with all-new 3D graphics, sound, and fully rendered cinematics. For the uninitiated: Mario vs. Donkey Kong is a game that blends the typical platforming elements of other 2D Mario games with concise, puzzle-box-style challenges. In each stage, Mario must unlock a door by obtaining a key, which is hidden behind a number of different traps and puzzles that need to be solved. In addition to revamped visuals and gameplay, the Mario vs. Donkey Kong remake will feature co-op support - a feature missing from the original Game Boy Advance version.
Princess Peach: Showtime! - March 22
Fans of Princess Peach will be glad to learn that Princess Peach: Showtime!, a game centered entirely on the titular princess of the Mushroom Kingdom, will release in the spring of next year. Showtime! follows Peach on her journey to save a magical theater from invaders, facing off against Wicked Grape and the Sour Bunch. This will be the first Nintendo game to center primarily on Peach since Super Princess Peach in 2005.
Luigi's Mansion 2 HD - Summer 2024
Nintendo will be reviving yet another classic title, this time featuring Luigi. Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, previously known as Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon on the 3DS, has been announced for the Switch, and has been given a release window of Summer 2024. Like the other re-releases from Nintendo, Luigi's Mansion 2 will enjoy a graphical facelift, and will likely get some performance enhancements as well, though less information has been revealed about this title compared to the rest of Nintendo's 2024 lineup.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door HD - Date TBD
One of the most beloved entires in the series, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, is being brought over to the Nintendo Switch next year. There are a few other Paper Mario games available on the Switch, including the most recent game in the franchise, Paper Mario: The Origami King, but the re-release of the Gamecube-exclusiveThe Thousand-Year Door is sure to excite fans of the series nonetheless. Little has been revealed about this re-release, with its specific release date being unannounced, but Nintendo has confirmed that it will be coming next year, so more information is likely forthcoming.
