Frequent Nintendo leaker Zippo has claimed that a Nintendo Direct will be airing soon, with a focus on the Super Mario franchise and potentially some GameCube news. Nintendo has hosted a Nintendo Direct presentation nearly every September for over a decade, so it wouldn't be all that surprising if such an event did indeed take place next month.
Zippo is a frequent Nintendo leaker with a spotty track record. Some of their leaks have turned out to be accurate, but others have not come to fruition. Needless to say, fans should take these latest claims with a massive grain of salt. It remains to be seen if there is any legitimacy to these latest "leaks," but if they are accurate, the next Nintendo Direct could be especially exciting for GameCube fans.
Zippo's latest blog post claims that the rumored Nintendo Direct for September 2023 will have a "heavy focus" on Super Mario, with fresh looks at Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Super Mario RPG, and the new Princess Peach game. They also think that it's "very likely" more GameCube remasters will be at the Direct. Specific GameCube remasters weren't mentioned, but legitimate insiders have said before that Metroid Prime 2 is getting remastered on Switch, and there have been persistent rumors over the years that Nintendo is looking to bring the HD remasters of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess to the Switch as well.
Zippo ended their post by teasing that the next Nintendo Direct will air at some point in the first two weeks of September or maybe "even sooner." Even if Nintendo does host a Nintendo Direct event in September, it's not necessarily an indication of any kind of legitimate insider information. After all, Nintendo has hosted a Nintendo Direct basically every September for over a decade, so it would be stranger if one didn't take place next month.
But hypothetically, if more GameCube remasters are shown at the Nintendo Direct as Zippo has teased, the Metroid Prime 2 remaster seems like the most likely possibility. The Metroid Prime 2 remaster has been leaked by proven, reliable sources, and so it's just a matter of time before it's revealed to the masses.
Some fans may be anxious to see what Nintendo has in store with its next-generation console instead of seeing updates on Nintendo Switch games. The latest reports indicate that the next Nintendo console will launch at some point in 2024, but fans shouldn't hold their breath that they will get any official information on it this year.
