The last time Nintendo hosted a proper Nintendo Direct presentation was September 2019, meaning it's been nearly a year without one. In the interim, Nintendo has hosted video presentations focused on specific games, Mini Directs, and Indie World showcases, but it's clear that fans are hungry for a proper Nintendo Direct. The latest rumor claims that the wait may soon be over, as Nintendo may very well host its next Nintendo Direct presentation next week.

This rumor stems from VentureBeat's Jeff Grubb, speaking in the latest episode of GamesBeat Decides. According to Grubb, he's "heard a few things" about a Nintendo Direct presentation taking place next week, with Friday, August 28 being the specific date that he's heard. However, Grubb also said that it's possible that the Nintendo presentation he believes is happening on August 28 will instead be another Mini Direct focused on third-party Switch games as opposed to first-party Nintendo titles. Regardless, Grubb believes that the next Nintendo Direct will take place by the middle of September, as that's when Nintendo is hosting a special meeting with investors.

It seems as though rumors of a new Nintendo Direct pop up every week at this point, only for fans to end up disappointed. However, Nintendo was going to host a special Nintendo Direct at E3 2020 that was canceled, and so one has to imagine that the Big N has some big announcements up its sleeve. Not only that, but Nintendo's holiday 2020 slate is pretty bare at the moment, with the only title announced being Pikmin 3 Deluxe, a port of a Wii U game.

Rumors are that Nintendo plans on making some big Super Mario-related announcements soon, in celebration of the franchise's 35th anniversary. Leakers have said in the past that this will come in the form of a 3D Super Mario collection that includes Super Mario 64Super Mario SunshineSuper Mario Galaxy, and Super Mario Galaxy 2, all bundled together for the Nintendo Switch. It's also been suggested that the Wii U's Super Mario 3D World will be making the jump to the Switch at some point later this year as well.

Meanwhile, some other leaks may reveal more of Nintendo's plans for its next Direct presentation. Amazon UK posted a listing for Skyward Sword on the Switch, suggesting that the Wii-exclusive Zelda will soon be getting a new lease on life. However, it's possible that the Amazon listing was made in error, and so fans should keep that in mind.

If Nintendo is planning to host a Nintendo Direct presentation on Friday, August 28, here's hoping it makes the official announcement sooner rather than later so fans can stop guessing.
