Originally released on November 20, 2020, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is about an alternate timeline where Zelda and Link are triumphant against Calamity Gannon 100 years before the beginning of Breath of the Wild. This game introduced several playable characters, from the main characters to the Champions and even some new side characters like the unlockable, adorable mini-Guardian robot Terrako.

Nintendo has finally announced some good news for fans of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity as players will soon get a chance to expand the available characters with two additional downloadable content packs. The Breath of the Wild semi-prequal has some new information on the planned second and first DLCs for Hyrule Warriors, coming later this year.

The official Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Twitter page is finally giving players a peak into the two DLCs coming soon to the game. The first DLC, called Ancient Heartbeat, will be released the end of June 2021. This first Hyrule Warriors DLC will include new playable characters, additional weapons types, several new challenges in the The Royal Ancient Tech Lab, and even new strong enemies. The Guardian of Recollection will be the second DLC, set to be released in November 2021 and will have more story, even more playable characters, and new movesets for existing characters. The second DLC will also be adding new character vignettes and additional stages.

The two DLCs will be included in the purchase of the season pass for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, which is already available for pre-purchase for $19.99 USD in the eShop. Players who preorder the pass will also receive a bonus armor set and weapon for Link starting May 28, 2021 in the style of the Ancient Soldier armor from Breath of the Wild.

While the number of additional characters being added is unknown, there was a possible datamine leak in December 2020 that suggested that there would be four new characters added in the first and/or second DLCs: Robbie, Purah, Astor, and Sooga. Fans of the series are hoping to see more Breath of the Wild favorites turn into playable characters in Hyrule Warriors, like Kass, the Horse God, or Harbinger Ganon.

Regardless of what characters are added for both DLCs, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity appears to be following in a similar path to its predecessor with how it is expanding with additional content. Fans are likely to be happy seeing Nintendo continuing to embrace DLC for many of its titles, like the recently released update for Mario Party and the DLCs for the original Breath of the Wild.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is available for Nintendo Switch.
