Today, it was revealed that a once Japan-only title, Detective Pikachu, is set for a Western release date at the end of this month, with fans in the US understandably excited to finally be able to experience the adventure game. Now, it looks as if gamers living stateside will also have a chance to purchase another Pokemon-themed product that was originally exclusive to the Eastern country, as the Nintendo 2DS XL Pikachu Edition has received a US release date of January 26, 2018.

As seen in the artwork below, the Nintendo 2DS XL Pikachu Edition is aimed directly at Pokemon fans, as the adorable Electric-type's face on the hardware will no doubt cause a spark of joy to be felt in their hearts. Those who are looking to purchase the handheld device will be facing a price tag of $160 when it becomes available, which likely won't be a deterrent for many die-hard fans of the RPG franchise.

In addition to the launch of the Nintendo 2DS XL Pikachu Edition in the US, the Big N has also reiterated a previous announcement that it will be releasing the Game Boy Color title Pokemon Crystal in the Nintendo eShop on the same date, January 26, 2018 for $10. For those unaware, the 3DS/2DS version of the release features wireless battling and trading, and is also compatible with the Pokemon Bank.

Bearing all of this in mind, it looks as if the beginning of 2018 is heavily populated with news relating to the Pokemon franchise, as Nintendo could be priming everyone for major details to come regarding the new Pokemon game for the Switch. Of course, this is merely speculation, but if yesterday's undisclosed Nintendo Direct Mini is any indication of the company's plans, it's best not to count the Big N out when it comes to any surprise announcements.
