Robert Englund, who played the iconic monster, Freddy Krueger, might be ready to move on from the past. While he is prepared to watch someone else shine, he has thoughts about who should direct a new Nightmare on Elm Street movie.

Wes Craven was one of the best horror filmmakers of all time. Craven is responsible for creating some of the films that have cult followings to this day, from Nightmare on Elm Street to the Scream franchise. The Nightmare on Elm Street got a reboot in 2010 that didn't do so well with critics or fans of the beloved 1984 film. Luckily, the recent reboot of the Scream franchise has been getting nothing but rave reviews. Of course, with Craven's passing in 2015, there are questions about who is qualified to direct a Nightmare on Elm Street reboot, but Englund knows the right person.

Getting a shout-out from Freddy Kruger himself is an honor all on its own, and it also seems like a no-brainer on who should kick-start this new version of A Nightmare on Elm Street. Of course, it's none other than a master of elevated horror himself, Jordan Peele. "There's extraordinary work being done right now. I don't want to live in a world without Jordan Peele. Get Out is absolute genius," Englund told Insider.

The Nope director publicly deemed Nightmare on Elm Street "the best horror movie ever made." In an interview with Jimmy Fallon in 2019, Peele admitted that even the movie poster gave him the creeps. "I'd see like, the Nightmare On Elm Street poster, and it would just creep me out," Peele said. "Not even the whole movie, you know, for like two years, I was just creeped out by the poster."

Since his directing debut with Get Out, the horror buff continues to pack theaters with his newest and latest horror films, which never disappoint. Since his younger years, it's clear that Peele has overcome his fear of Freddy. He instead has channeled the inner Freddy Kruger in him. "The best laugh you've ever gotten in your life is nothing. When you get an audience to shudder and to give you that feedback, it's so powerful," he told Fallon. "I just felt like, you know, I am Freddy Kruger, I can be the monster. I can give night terrors."

Some may roll their eyes and go, "Another reboot?" This reboot may be a reboot the horror world needs. While nothing is set in stone yet, getting Peele to direct this classic horror franchise is a logical move. With Peele on the project, it would be a chance for the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise to flourish again for a new generation of horror buffs. As for Englund, he may be ready to pass on the Freddy Krueger torch to someone new, but he wouldn't be opposed to a cameo if asked.
