One of Nightingale's most unique features is the Realm Card system, which essentially lets players exert some degree of control when it comes to the game's random world generation. There's plenty of realmwalking to do in the Faewilds, and Realm Cards make sure no two worlds ever feel the same.

During a recent Game ZXC interview, Nightingale's devs detail how the Fae are not simply boxed into depictions of tricksters and/or ne'er-do-wells.

Realm Cards will let players dip their toes into the many different permutations of Nightingale's Fae Realms, but these don't exactly grow on trees. Here's how you can get more Realm Cards as well as some important things to know about them.

What Are Realm Cards?

Realm Cards are basically modifiers that determine the seed of a world that a player is about to generate. These affect a world's biome, the enemies that appear in it, buffs and debuffs that affect players, and other mutators that can greatly affect the regular Nightingale experience. Realm Cards come in three different versions:

  • Biome — Determines your world's biome (Forest/Desert/Swamp).
  • Major Cards — Affects the presence of quests, NPCs, POIs, enemy types, and more.
  • Minor Cards — Changes player stats, weather conditions, world traits, resources spawns, and more.

Every time you open a portal, you'll be asked to use one Biome Card and one Major Card. If you want to use Minor Realm Cards, you must find the Realmic Transmuter within the world and place your new modifiers there.

Where to Find Realm Cards

Players can get basic Realm Cards by looting or crafting them. Each realm has multiple POIs that may have Realm Cards inside chests and other containers. Abandoned human buildings or ruined Fae structures have a decent chance of having a few chests in their vicinities, so you'll want to check those places thoroughly for a shot at finding some cards. Alternatively, you can also buy some Minor Realm Cards from Essence Traders.

Fae Towers and Sites of Power also contain Realm Cards (often Biome and Major ones). You'll need to beat a boss in order to get them, which can be a problem if you're playing Nightingale solo. These POIs are marked by electric gates that will repel you if you're undergeared. If you can't get inside a Site of Power, increase your Gear Score first.

How to Craft Realm Cards

Biome Realm Cards can also be crafted at a Simple Enchanter's Focus. You can get the recipe for this workbench from an Essence Trader somewhere in your world. To make a Realm Card, you'll need:

  • Paper — made with 2x Wood Bundle in a Simple Saw Table
  • Ink — combine Refined Pigment and Glass in a Simple Mortar

You can make Refined Pigment in a Simple Mortar by using Animal Meat. Meanwhile, Glass can be crafted by melting down Gems in a Simple Smelter . If you can't make ink, you can instead use Bound Ichor , which drops from Bound enemies.
