In Nightingale, acquiring Gems is a process akin to gathering ore, where the player utilizes a Simple Mining Pick or a tool of higher quality at specific mineral veins. Gem deposits are characterized by colored crystals protruding from the stone, making them particularly easy to identify. Like Ore deposits, Gem deposits are located in areas rich in stone, such as cliffs, mountains, and shores. Early on, players will most commonly encounter Quartz nodes, allowing them to collect raw gems with their Simple Mining Pick.

Obtain the Simple Smelter Schematic

To produce Glass, the player employs a Simple Smelter, using two Gems for each piece of Glass created. The schematic for the Simple Smelter is obtainable from an Essence Trader for 55 Essence, following the completion of the Antiquarian Site of Power, a key destination in the game's main story.

It’s worth noting that acquiring the schematic does not require further quest progression or travel to an Antiquarian Realm as instructed by the next stages of the main story quest series. Instead, the schematic for the Simple Smelter becomes automatically available from the Essence Trader upon finishing the Site of Power dungeon.

Craft, Place, and Use the Simple Smelter

Constructing the Simple Smelter requires four Stone Blocks and six Rocks. Once assembled and positioned, the Simple Smelter must be fueled to function and smelt Glass. Acceptable fuel sources include Fibre, Wood Bundles, or Sticks.

With the smelter adequately fueled, the player selects the Glass recipe and supplies the necessary Gems to commence the crafting of Glass. A single piece of Glass requires 2 Raw Gems to smelt.
