Nightingale has quite a few long-range weapons, but you need to be careful about what you craft. Essence is a valuable resource, so it's best to save it for the best weapons.

Not all the weapons in the game are equal. This is obvious from a quick look at their stats, but unfortunately, descriptions and stats are usually not enough to understand which weapon suits best for you. For the full picture, take a look at the following guide to the best ranged weapons in Nightingale.

The Lancaster Pistol is the best choice for the early game. This pistol has more ammo than the rifle and shotgun, which you unlock at the same time. With four bullets and a fairly fast reload, the Lancaster Pistol is much more flexible in combat, but its damage is almost as good because you can fire all the bullets at once. In addition, it is a one-handed weapon, leaving your other hand free. The only disadvantage of the Lancaster Pistol is its low range compared to other guns, but it has enough advantages to be called the best ranged weapon in the early game.

You can get a Lancaster Pistol for free by completing Bass Reeves quests. Alternatively, you can buy the Lancaster Pistol schematic from the Forest Provider Essence Trader and craft with the following materials:

  • 1 Barrel
  • 1 Wrap
  • 1 Stock
  • 1 Action

If you like pistols the most, choose the Porter Pistol, because it is the most powerful of them all. The Porter Pistol has only slightly less damage than the Webley Revolver, but it has eight more bullets, so it is much more maneuverable in battle. However, it is recommended that you craft the Porter Pistol only after you have the Winchester Rifle and use the Webley Revolver simultaneously, as you can get it for free.

The Porter Pistol has roughly the same pros and cons as the Lancaster Pistol. You have one free hand that can be used for something else, but the range leaves much to be desired. Even shotguns shoot further, let alone rifles. You can buy the Porter Pistol schematic from The Watch or Miscellaneous Essence Trader, and craft it using these materials:

  • 1 Barrel
  • 1 Filigree
  • 1 Forged Handle
  • 1 Refined Action

As soon as you get the Winchester Rifle, you will quickly realize that it is the best weapon in the game. Its direct competitor, the Lee Metford Rifle, is also a decent weapon. Due to its higher stats, the latter may seem even better. However, it has much less ammunition and there is a delay after each shot, which makes it rather hard to use and requires good accuracy.

Meanwhile, the Winchester Rifle has a magazine with up to 14 bullets that you can quickly fire one after the other. But it's worth noting that when reloading, the character puts in each bullet one by one, so it may take longer than you expect. You can get the Porter Pistol schematic from The Watch or Miscellaneous Essence Trader, and craft with the following materials:

  • 1 Barrel
  • 1 Metal Plate
  • 1 Handle
  • 1 Refined Action
