On the surface, NieR Replicant may be a fast-paced action game with a unique setting and extensive lore, but dig a little deeper and players will also find some more mundane things to do. This includes fishing, farming, riding boars, running errands for people as side quests, and more. When it comes to farming, there are many reasons players may want to plant seeds in the game, as they are both a great way to save money instead of buying fruits and vegetables outright and an amazing way to make money by selling the yield. Still, it isn't always entirely obvious how a player should go about planting seeds.

NieR Replicant is split up into two parts. During the first part of the story (before the player rescues Kaine), players can unlock the garden area by completing the quest called "Shopping List." Later on, they will also gain access to a quest called "Return to Shopping," which will drastically increase the size of their garden and give other resources.

For those players that missed one or both of these sidequests during the first half of NieR Replicant, the garden can still be unlocked by purchasing the Cultivator’s Handbook from the Village florist. This is expensive and will cost the player 5,000 gold, but it will fully unlock the garden and all extras that players will need. After unlocking the garden, players can get to work planting seeds in order to get flowers, vegetables, and fruits.

Gardening basics NieR Replicant

The first things players will need to do is acquire a seed. This can be done by purchasing seeds from the item shop, finding them out in the world, and even occasionally by defeating enemy shades. With seed in hand, approach the garden and press the action button. Press plant and then select the desired seed. Once planted, players can water the seed to help it grow by selecting it and pressing water. Fertilizer can be used on an empty plot before planting the seed to change the way it grows. There are three types of fertilizer in total, speed, flowering, and bounty fertilizer.

Using Speed Fertilier will allow the seed to grow faster, while using the Flowering Fertilizer will lengthen the flowering and harvesting period of the plant. Finally, the Bounty Fertilizer boosts the harvest output, so players should keep in mind what fertilizer will suit their needs the best. That's all there is to planting seeds, but gardening can become much more in depth if the player wants to get NieR Replicant's platinum trophy.

NieR Replicant is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
