NieR Replicant is a deep RPG with lots of side quests. Completing side quests will be a common pastime for those who want to explore as much as possible. Early on in the game, some players will be in a hurry to complete quests to earn money towards buying better weapons. There will be plenty of side questing action after seeing everything the first dungeon has to offer. One quest that new players will soon pick up involves collecting Royal Ferns, and this guide will make it easy to find them.

The particular quest in NieR Replicant which sends the protagonist off to find Royal Ferns is called "The Tavern Keeper's Grandmother." It can be picked up from an NPC inside the tavern in the village's marketplace. Devola often spends her days singing in the tavern, so finding the location should be a simple matter of following the music. The quest also entails delivering Medicinal Herbs and Berries, which are quite easy to find or even purchase in the selfsame village. The Royal Fern is a more elusive resource, however.

The Royal Fern is an uncommon resource that can gathered in the Northern Plains or Southern Plains. It is obtained from the sparkly gathering points that randomly spawn in certain locations throughout the field. Some locations typically yield plant-type resources, like the Royal Fern. Other spots tend to be ore veins. It's an easy enough task to pick up every shiny when coming and going between quest and story objectives. The adventuring nameless hero will have enough Royal Ferns in his pocket without too much trouble using this method.

An alternate way of completing the quest is to simply purchase some Royal Fern. However, there are no vendors in the protagonist's home village which sell the rare plant. One would have to venture all the way to the town of Seafront to find a merchant capable of selling the stuff. Luckily, it's an easy enough journey that can be made simply by traveling south through the Southern Plains.

Players who wish to kill two birds with one stone might hold off on journeying to Seafront until the main story brings them there. This will occur sometime after meeting Kaine for the first time. There is also another side quest that can be completed by visiting Seafront. This "Shopping List" quest requires purchasing Tulip Bulbs from a florist in Seafront. And for side quest savants, there will be a number of additional quests to pick up in the humble port town.

The NieR series is known for beloved characters and near-incomprehensible stories that put gamers in awe. But NieR Replicant also has plenty to offer for those who crave a beautiful world to explore and adventure in. Side quests provide an opportunity for a game to deepen the world and introduce interesting or quirky storylines - even if some quests are as simple as finding chicken eggs.
