Academy Award-winner Nicolas Cage will host a six-episode Netflix docuseries titled History of Swear Words. As the title indicates, the series will examine the origins and cultural impact of a different curse word in each episode.

Produced by Funny or Die and Industrial Media's B17 Entertainment, History of Swear Words will follow Cage as he discusses six different curse words with celebrities and etymology experts in 20-minute episodes. Bellamie Blackstone will serve as showrunner and executive producer alongside Mike Farah, Joe Farrell, and Beth Belew of Funny or Die, as well as B17's Brien Meagher and Rhett Bachner.

Netflix released a trailer for History of Swear Words in which Cage, dressed in a suit and surrounded by paintings, adds the finishing touches to an art canvas while discussing the subject of his first lesson. "It is a thing of great wonder and mystery, quivering with complexity, strength, and resilience. However, also, buried within, a delicate femininity and, dare I say, naughtiness," Cage explains just before revealing the artwork. "And a term for that kid too afraid to play dodgeball in gym class... It also can be a cat."

Per The Hollywood Reporter, the roster of celebrity guests will include Joel Kim Booster, DeRay Davis, Open Mike Eagle, Nikki Glaser, Patti Harrison, London Hughes, Jim Jefferies, Zainab Johnson, Nick Offerman, Sarah Silverman, Baron Vaughn, and Isiah Whitlock Jr.

History of Swear Words is just one of many streaming projects audiences can expect from Cage in the future. The fan-favorite actor is set to portray Joe Exotic in a scripted series based on the infamous Tiger King zookeeper, and he will also take on the lead role in an adaptation of Eoin Colfer's novel Highfire. Both projects are slated to premiere on Amazon Prime Video, with Cage serving as an executive producer.

However, Cage's most interesting forthcoming role may be that of himself in the film The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Directed by Tom Gormican from a script he co-wrote with Kevin Etten, the film stars Tiffany Haddish as a rogue agent who recruits Cage on a mission to bring down a crime lord.

The fact that Cage has taken on such unusual roles should come as no surprise to fans of the actor, who is well-known for his over-the-top and eccentric performances. In fact, Pedro Pascal recently admitted that he was inspired by Cage's style of acting for his role as Maxwell Lord in Wonder Woman 1984.

History of Swear Words will be released through Netflix on January 5, 2021.
