  • XDefiant's retro approach to attachments is a hit with most fans, but some criticize the time it takes to unlock them in the game.
  • Despite some issues on launch day, XDefiant is gaining traction with FPS fans, offering a more focused selection of attachments and classic guns.

Popular streamer Nickmercs recently applauded XDefiant for its approach to weapon attachments, as Ubisoft chose to utilize a much different strategy than FPS competitor Call of Duty. However, at the same time, fans have also grown frustrated with a particular aspect of XDefiant's attachments.

Many of XDefiant's features resemble earlier CoD titles as the new franchise hopes to win over FPS fans. This mindset includes the game's attachments, and although this retro approach has mostly been a hit with fans, some have expressed frustration over the sheer amount of time it takes to unlock XDefiant's weapon attachments. Despite this issue, FPS fans have praised other attributes of the game's weapon unlock system.

XDefiant gamers can unlock new attachments and skins for their weapons faster if they use boosters --here's how it works.

During a stream, Nickmercs explained that he's a huge fan of XDefiant's simplified system for attachments, as each attachment category features significantly fewer options than those seen in newer Call of Duty games. A title like Modern Warfare 3 features countless attachments in most categories, whether that be optics, grips, or muzzles, which has led to disapproval from many CoD fans who view the massive selection of attachments as unnecessary filler, especially since many of the CoD attachments behave almost identically. XDefiant has chosen to take a more focused approach with a much smaller selection of attachments, with almost every option offering benefits and drawbacks that aren't seen in others.

Nickmercs Loves XDefiant's Attachments

In the video, Nickmercs appears to praise XDefiant for only having five attachment categories to choose between, but this is a bit misleading since XDefiant features seven attachment categories to choose from. Both XDefiant and CoD allow users to pick a total of five attachments, but XDefiant's strength lies in its much smaller selection of options. Ubisoft also chose to make XDefiant's weapons relatively simple to unlock by requiring users to complete pretty straightforward challenges in exchange for new guns. This is in contrast to certain CoD titles like 2022's Modern Warfare 2, which required players to complete challenges in one weapon category in order to unlock new guns in an entirely different category, leading to frustration from some Call of Duty players.

XDefiant's lineup of weapons contains an assortment of classic guns that FPS fans are sure to recognize. However, if players want to reach max level with their favorite weapon, it's probably going to take a while unless they fork over some money for XP boosts, which can be obtained in XDefiant's battle pass.

Although XDefiant ran into some issues on launch day, it seems to be off to a hot start after recovering. Ubisoft said that the game's preseason would run for six weeks, putting Season 1's launch on July 2, although this date hasn't been explicitly confirmed yet. According to an official roadmap, Season 1 will introduce three weapons, three maps, a faction, and more.
