The Ni No Kuni games built their appeal on their beautiful Studio Ghibli-inspired worlds, so when news first broke that the franchise was getting an MMO with Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds, it seemed like a perfect fit. While Cross Worlds' launch has garnered some controversy, this part of its appeal is still going strong.

Like most MMOs, Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds is best played with friends. The game encourages players to fill out their kingdom, Cross Worlds' term for guilds. Just like with any social situation, keeping track of whose who is important.

Players should be cautious when setting their own names, however. It can be difficult to change later.

How Names Work in Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds

Players will set their name as part of the tutorial, shortly after choosing their character class. Players should note that this only happens when first starting the game, and the name that they're setting is for their account as a whole. If they want to start another character in a different class, it will still have the same name.

There is a way for players to change the account name, but it can't be done immediately and costs premium currency. Further, since it's still the account name, the change will affect all characters on the player's account.

The Player Name Change Ticket

Players can change their account name with the Player Name Change Ticket, a premium item that costs 300 diamonds in Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds' in-game store. It's not as simple as putting down money, however. The player first needs to unlock it.

The player only has access to the basic store when they start the game. The other tabs are unlocked after the player has completed some early missions and summoned their first familiar. Afterward, the player can find the Player Name Change Ticket in the Bundles tab.

There is one last word of warning. Just with their initial name choice, players should consider their new name carefully. They are barred from purchasing another Player Name Change Ticket for a month.

Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds is available now for Android, iOS, and PC.
