EA Sports announced that a Mighty Ducks-themed update will be available for NHL 23 across several game modes including World of Chel and Hockey Ultimate Team. Fans of NHL 23 that grew up watching the Mighty Ducks Disney films are in for a treat as EA Sports celebrates the film series’ 30th anniversary.
On Tuesday, EA Sports released a teaser video showing off the new Mighty Ducks gear, as well as the franchise namesake’s rival, the Hawks. The uniforms for both fictional teams were released in the afternoon for the NHL 23 World of Chel and Hockey Ultimate Team game modes. This includes the jerseys for both modes, with World of Chel also receiving custom skates for their created players.
Hockey Ultimate Team players will be getting a boost to their teams, as well. EA Sports released a Ducks ICON Choice Pack to celebrate the original film’s anniversary, allowing players to choose from one of six Ducks alumni to add to their squads. The Ducks legends are Teemu Selanne, Jean Sebastien Giguere, Scott Niedermayer, Andy McDonald, Saku Koivu, and Francois Beauchemin.
For NHL 23 players that may be worried about the standard version having all the Mighty Ducks goodies, all editions of the game get the bonuses. Players will have to act quickly, though, as the Fly Together update is available for a limited time. Players that don’t dive into either of the game modes but still love the Mighty Ducks films will also be able to get their hands on real-life editions of the uniforms.
Along with the update, EA Sports announced that 30th-anniversary jerseys will be available for purchase through Adidas. Both Adidas stores and their website will have the jerseys for sale, which were debuted by the sports apparel company on Monday. The Adidas jerseys available will be Charlie Conway’s Mighty Ducks jersey and Gordon Bombay’s Hawks jersey. The jerseys are a nice complement to NHL 23 cover athlete Trevor Zegras's Anaheim Ducks jersey.
Unfortunately, Conway and Bombay won’t be players that can be unlocked for Hockey Ultimate Team along with the update. Still, being able to wear the same uniforms that the two iconic film characters wore is enough for a lot of fans of World of Chel and HUT.
The Mighty Ducks update is another big one for EA Sports in the past week. On October 28, the developer announced that Hockey Ultimate Team players would be able to earn Fantasy Hockey master items as part of their annual event that typically brings the most attention as the hockey season starts to get into full gear.
NHL 23 is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
