Highlights

  • Pokemon Presents, a Pokemon-specific version of Nintendo's Nintendo Direct presentations, is expected to have a new event in the near future.
  • The pattern of holding Pokemon Presents events in February and August suggests that a new event will likely take place in August 2023.
  • Data miners have found evidence in Pokemon Masters EX that also points to a Pokemon Presents happening in August.

It looks like Pokemon fans will be treated to a new Pokemon Presents event at some point in the near future. Pokemon Presents is essentially the Pokemon-specific version of Nintendo's Nintendo Direct presentations. Pokemon Presents events are full of news for the Pokemon franchise as a whole, often mixing new Pokemon game announcements along with reveals for titles that are already on the market.

Two Pokemon Presents events have been held twice a year since 2020. 2020 had two Pokemon Presents in one month, but 2021 and 2022 spread them out a bit more. In both 2022 and 2021, a Pokemon Presents took place in February and another in August. A Pokemon Presents has already taken place in February for 2023, and now it seems that the pattern will continue and a new Pokemon Presents will happen at some point in August.

Besides the February/August pattern that's been established these past few years, there is more evidence to suggest that a Pokemon Presents event will be happening at some point next month. Now data miners going through the files of the Pokemon Masters EX mobile game have found references to an in-game Pokemon Presents campaign that's apparently scheduled to begin August 8. This could mean that the Pokemon Presents event is happening on August 8, but it could potentially happen a different day next month as well, so fans should keep that in mind.

As for what might be at this new Pokemon Presents event, it's really anyone's guess until it actually happens. However, there are some very obvious possibilities. Detective Pikachu Returns is scheduled to release on October 6, so it seems highly likely that the game would be featured at a potential August 2023 Pokemon Presents. Fans can also count on more information for the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC, perhaps even specific release dates for the two expansions.

Updates for other Pokemon games, like Pokemon Masters EX and Pokemon Unite, seem likely. It's possible Pokemon GO and Pokemon Sleep will have a presence at the event as well. And while it's perhaps a longer shot than these other games, fans can't rule out the possibility of a Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack release date for Pokemon Stadium 2 being announced at the event. Ultimately, Pokemon fans will just have to tune in to find out for sure.

And of course, this is all assuming that a Pokemon Presents event is even happening. While it seems like an almost-certainty, Pokemon fans should keep their expectations in check until the official announcement is made.
