How to Play New York Times Games Strands

If you don't know how to play Strands but want to learn, here are all the rules. This should help you get through your first round of this immersive puzzle game.

  • In order to play, you need to go to the New York Times Games Strands website.
  • The board will be a six by eight board of letters.
  • Find words inside the box; if they are words that belong in the category, they will highlight in blue or yellow. If they are not, you will still get recognition for them; they will refill your hint meter.
  • The category will be one of the hidden words in the puzzle; it can be one or two words long, and it must touch opposing sides of the puzzle board. It will highlight in yellow when found.
  • All letters must be used in the puzzle, but no letters can be reused.
  • You have unlimited guesses to get to the answer.
