Sega’s Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name and Like a Dragon: Ishin are both slated to join Xbox Game Pass later this year. Masayoshi Yokoyama, director of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, confirmed this during Xbox's Tokyo Game Show broadcast. Like a Dragon Gaiden will launch on November 9, 2023, and will be available on Game Pass at launch for both consoles and PC. Meanwhile, Like a Dragon: Ishin, which was released earlier in 2023, will be added to Game Pass for consoles and PC at an unannounced date later this year.

This announcement closely follows the studio's recent reveal of a new story trailer for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Slated for a 2024 release, the trailer highlighted some jaw-dropping twists for the original series protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu. With Infinite Wealth in the pipeline and the addition of Gaiden and Ishin to Game Pass, it’s clear the studio has robust plans for the franchise's future.

The decision to bring Kazuma Kiryu back to the forefront, as clarified by the producer behind the series, seems well-calibrated given the character's deep connection with fans. Game Pass subscribers and Like a Dragon fans alike stand to gain considerably from this latest development.

Recent previews of Like a Dragon Gaiden have unveiled extensive disguise customization options for Kiryu, as he works undercover in his latest adventure. This feature could become a series staple, hinting at a commitment to gameplay innovation for future titles. Alongside the Game Pass additions, it allows Sega to tap into a larger pool of potential fans, while Xbox Game Pass continues to assert itself as a must-have service for players, by offering day-one access to the long-awaited Like a Dragon Gaiden.
