In The Walking Dead: Destinies, players are provided with the opportunity to rewrite history for the first four seasons of the show. Not only does this completely change some key outcomes in the show, such as the tease of Rick dying in Shane's place at the farm, but it also encourages a sense of enigma that fans and players will want to seek out for themselves to discover the unique plot lines that will be available in the game.

7 Rick Answers The Radio To Morgan

Rick calling morgan

When Morgan and his son, Duane, first saved Rick outside their home, they laid the foundations of a friendship between two characters that could go from strength to strength in the fallen world. With Rick’s own plight for survival, he got too sidetracked by a string of disastrous events, unable to deliver the promise he made to Morgan and answer the radio every day at dawn.

Eventually, Morgan’s son, Duane, dies at the hands of his zombified wife, Jenny, whom he never found the strength to put down, and Morgan is unable to kill him until many years later. It would be interesting to imagine a plot line where Morgan and Rick stay in contact, keeping Morgan's hope alive and allowing them to come back in contact with one another at the farm or prison. Morgan in the first few episodes proved his worth as a valuable friend, fighter, and survivalist, which would make him a fine addition to the earlier conflicts the group faced at the farm and the prison.

6 Ed Doesn't Die By Walkers & Carol Gets Her Own Revenge

Carols transformation

In the earliest season of The Walking Dead, Carol is nothing like her present self. She makes excuses for her abusive husband, Ed, and she is constantly walking on eggshells around him, distanced from the other survivors. Ed quickly gets his comeuppance, however, in the form of a brutal beating from Shane, only to be later devoured by walkers in a tent.

If Ed were to stay alive a little longer in the game, it would allow Carol to make that reclamation over her abuser herself and embark on a path that would allow both her and even Sophia, to flourish. Carol has one of the most incredible arcs in the entire show, where she transforms from a meek character to one who fears nothing. She manages to maintain this persona in later seasons, allowing people to underestimate her, like a true sheep in a wolf's clothing.

5 Shane Kills Randall & Leaves The Group With Andrea

Shane and andrea

Killing Randall might have been one of the final nails in the coffin for Shane, as it set him on a path of no return. Many survivors in the group felt they could no longer trust him after they found out what he did, yet Shane still believed killing Rick would be the answer to all his problems.

On several occasions, Andrea suggested they run away together and start anew, which would serve as a catalyst for keeping the both of them alive to later seasons. Given the state of the world and how quickly both Rick and Shane needed to adapt to simply stay alive, some time away from one another could play an important role in their own personal growth and could potentially make for a heartwarming or deadly reconciliation later down the line.

4 Mika Kills Lizzie

Mika and lizzie walking

In one of the most heartbreaking episodes in the entire show, Lizzie fatally stabs Mika, expecting her to rise up from the dead due to her odd intrigue with walkers and the ways in which they come back to life.

This scene would be gut-wrenching to explore should the game show the rather dark content but would make for an unexpected moment if Mika were to kill Lizzie instead, saving poor little Judith in the process. It would also set Mika up to further succeed against the many hardships in the world, as it seemed as though she was beginning to properly understand how the world operated and would have been ready to adapt in ways Lizzie was not.

3 Neither Rick Nor Shane Die At The Farm

Rick and shane talking

One of the main plot lines teased in The Walking Dead: Destinies is Rick's death at the hands of Shane, but an outcome far more intriguing would see the two of them coming together, despite their differences, and having the both of them make it to the prison and even beyond.

This would completely change the dynamic of the show going forward, as it would make for riveting gameplay to see Shane navigating some of the many challenges the group faces, such as the Governor and even Negan later on. His natural hot-headed temperament could see such challenges dealt with far sooner or escalated even further with the ruthlessness that Rick lacked in the earlier seasons. The relationship dynamic between Shane, Rick, Lori, and Judith would serve as a captivating narrative during forthcoming events.

2 Andrea Kills The Governor

The Walking Dead Andrea

When Andrea found herself above the Governor while he slept, she held the power to end his evil streak for good, but she couldn’t bring herself to do it. The consequences of Andrea not killing him would prove to be devastating to Rick and the group, which would make for a unique decision should players be given the choice in the game.

Characters such as Hershel, Merle, Axel, and decent people from Woodbury would have been spared from his wrath, which would have prevented the group from being forced out of the ruined prison. Of course, other dangers would have presented themselves sooner or later, which Rick, and possibly even Shane, could have guided the group through together. Andrea's decision could have kept many fan favorites alive, which shows just how crucial her choice was.

1 Rick Never Leaves The Hospital Or Dies At The Farm

Rick in hospital bed

With Rick being one of the most loved characters in the entire show, it goes without saying that he is the face of The Walking Dead.

From the gameplay trailer, it is apparent that Rick dying during his and Shane's farm confrontation is one possible outcome that players can expect, but there may be others like this that completely change the entire trajectory of the game. This is a very fresh and exciting take that many fans never thought would be realized. Now, players can expect to see Shane tackle the same challenges that Rick did, dealing with these threats in ways that, for now, can only be imagined.

The Walking Dead: Destinies is set to release on November 14th for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
