Announced via PlayStation's Twitter page, it appears a brand new State of Play is on the way, with the major console manufacturer confirming that the next in its long-line of broadcasts will debut this Thursday, August 6. Better yet, Sony has also revealed some details about what players can expect to see at this upcoming showcase, with a selection of PlayStation 4 and 5 titles supposedly making the cut.

The broadcast itself will start at 1PM Pacific Time, and according to PlayStation, will feature a selection of upcoming PlayStation 4 and PSVR games. It will also allegedly feature "a few quick check-ins on third-party and indie games from June’s PS5 showcase," however, Sony has been quick to clarify that there will be no major PlayStation 5 announcements, so fans expecting a continuation of the company's PS5 reveal should temper their expectations.

As for what could be shown at the broadcast, it seems there's still a handful of huge games the broadcast could talk about without the addition of any PlayStation 5 announcements. The small handful of third-party titles set to appear could offer new looks at games like Bugsnax, Watch Dogs: Legion, or Assassin's Creed Valhalla, while the PlayStation 4 still has titles like Marvel's Avengers and Mafia: The Definitive Edition on the horizon as well. There's a lot PlayStation still has to highlight, and with many fans looking for things to play between now and this holiday, it's likely a good time to flesh out what Sony's lineup looks like going forward.

That being said, it's clear some fans aren't too happy with Sony's decision to avoid discussing upcoming next-generation hardware. "Not gonna lie. I'm kinda disappointed here. We are in August still no price or date..." one user responds to the announcement on Twitter, while a second Sony fan states "Why no ps5 announcements? We need the price and ability to preorder! Some folks need to plan the budget." It's undeniably puzzling why Sony has waited so long to offer fans a firm price and release date for the PlayStation 5, but it's also worth remembering that the company has never used State of Plays for its biggest reveals and fans should be patient for more answers in the near future.

Until then, it's clear the State of Play will give fans a little bit of extra news about some of PlayStation's smaller projects. It's likely to be a fun time filled with interesting new trailers and PS4 announcements, even if it's not going to be dropping any bombshell reveals.

PlayStation's newest State of Play will debut on August 6 at 1PM PT / 4PM ET.
