Earlier today, Nintendo and The Pokemon Company shocked fans the world over when New Pokemon Snap was announced for the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo hasn't released a new Pokemon Snap game since the original launched in 1999 for the Nintendo 64, and so the announcement of New Pokemon Snap has been met with an overwhelmingly positive response by the Pokemon community. Shortly after the announcement, Nintendo set up a New Pokemon Snap official website, showing off some screenshots of the upcoming game.

The New Pokemon Snap screenshots reaffirm some details about the upcoming game. Namely, that it will feature a variety of Pokemon from across all of the generations, with numerous Pokemon shown off in the screenshots. The images also show that New Pokemon Snap will have a variety of locations for players to explore, including wooded areas and open water, with the appropriate Pokemon spawning in each place.

Similarly to the original Pokemon Snap game, it seems New Pokemon Snap will challenge players to take photos of the Pokemon at just the right moment, like when they are doing a pose or performing an attack. This can be seen in the screenshot of Magikarp splashing out of the water, with the photographer snapping a photo of the fish Pokemon in mid-air.

Beyond what fans can learn from these screenshots, not much else is known about New Pokemon Snap. Nintendo has not confirmed a release date or even a release window for the new game, so fans have no idea when they will get to play. Nintendo also stopped short of providing a deep-dive into what the New Pokemon Snap gameplay will entail, and so fans will have to wait a bit for a more thorough reveal.

In the meantime, fans can look forward to another big Pokemon franchise announcement next week on June 24. The Pokemon Company will be hosting another Pokemon Presents event on that date, where it has teased the reveal of a "big project" that the company is working on. Rumor has it that the project is none other than Pokemon Let's Go Gold and Let's Go Silver, but that's just speculation at the time of this writing.

Nintendo is also rumored to be hosting a Nintendo Direct presentation in August, so perhaps Pokemon fans will learn more about New Pokemon Snap at that point. In the meantime, they can check out these screenshots to get an idea of what to expect from the long-awaited game.

New Pokemon Snap is in development exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
