Players are able to choose the order in which they visit New Pokemon Snap's second, third and fourth Illumina Spots and so they'll either be near the beginning of their playthrough when they visit the one on the island of Voluca or somewhere in the middle. To unlock it, players will first need to reach research level 2 in the Volcano course and then play through it one more time to leave the course through its alternate exit. After doing so, the Illumina Spot will show up on the Fireflow Volcano course select page.

A pair of Volcarona serve as the island's Illumina Pokemon, although there are three other types of Pokemon who make an appearance in the course as well. Apart from the Volcarona themselves, however, none of these Pokemon really present any unique photo opportunities and so there's very little incentive to take the time to seek them out. That said, if players are hoping to get one to four star photos of Volcarona for their Photodex, they'll likely stumble upon the others at some point anyway.

Every Pokemon At The Voluca Island Illumina Spot

Research Level 1

  • Volcarona - Upon first arriving at Voluca Island's Illumina Spot, the only Pokemon that players are able to photograph are a pair of Volcarona. Like many of the game's other Illumina Pokemon, players won't actually be able to get a decent photo of the pair straight away though and so will need to interact with them a little first. They'll need to hit each of them with two Fluffruit to extinguish their flame shields and then land an Illumina Orb in order to get them to glow. Upon doing so, lighting one of the Crystabloom flowers in the second cavern will cause the pair to start communicating with each other which will count as a four star photo as well as covering one of the game's many photo requests.

Research Level 2

  • Monferno - At research level 2, players will be able to see a Monferno in the opening cavern. If they start throwing Fluffruit at the Volcarona straight away, however, they'll spend more time in the initial cavern and if they're able to get one of the Volcarona to glow, it will head over and talk to the Monferno after a minute or so.
  • Talonflame - If players start throwing their Fluffruit early so that they spend longer in the first cavern, illuminating one of the Volcarona will eventually lead to it flying through a tunnel and the other one flying through it the other way. If players turn around and illuminate this one, it will lead to a Talonflame swooping in and the pair doing battle in the tunnel.
  • Archeops - If players get the extended start in the first cavern but fail to illuminate the Volcarona, they'll travel higher and higher before passing through a different tunnel. The same thing will happen as in the other one, only this time an Archeops will appear and start fighting with the Volcarona instead of Talonflame. While in the second cavern, a pair of Archeops will also appear as players get closer to the course's exit.
