Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are getting DLC later this year, and while not much is known about the upcoming content a new Pokemon has appeared in the Horizons anime that bears a resemblance to one of the legendary mascots for the DLC. The Pokemon series has been known to tease new creatures in the anime long before they appear in the games, and it seems that the new anime is set to keep up this tradition.

In the very first episode of the Pokemon anime, Ash spots a large bird Pokemon as he heads towards Viridian City. The identity of this Pokemon, Ho-Oh, was only revealed two years later when Pokemon Gold and Silver released in 1999. Ho-Oh remains one of the strongest legendary Pokemon, even after all these years.

It has been reported that a turtle-like Pokemon appears in the first episode of Pokemon Horizons. The new creature bears a striking resemblance to the giant turtle Pokemon Terapagos, the mascot for the second part of the upcoming Scarlet and Violet DLC titled "The Indigo Disk." It appears that the unnamed Pokemon resides in a necklace worn by Horizons protagonist Liko. It is unknown whether this new Pokemon is a pre-evolution of Terapagos, but its shell looks almost exactly like the hexagonal protrusion in the middle of Terapagos' shell.

Unfortunately, there is little further context around the appearance of the mysterious Pokemon. New information should be revealed as Pokemon Horizons progresses. Some fans are speculating that it could be Terapagos itself in a lesser form, much like the legendary Zygarde from Generation 6 has a few increasingly powerful forms. Some Pokemon fans have pointed out that Paldea resembles a turtle, which raises some interesting questions and possible implications, especially in light of the fact that, as of writing, the height and weight of Terapagos are unknown.

While the upcoming Scarlet and Violet DLC remain shrouded in mystery for the time being, another legendary Pokemon called Ogerpon was revealed in the late-February Pokemon Presents. The two-part DLC will take players beyond the Paldea region, with the first part, "The Teal Mask," taking the player to a region called Kitikami. The second part, "The Indigo Disk," will take the player back to school as a transfer student at Blueberry Academy. The upcoming DLC does not have a fixed release date as yet, however, it is known that "The Teal Mask" will release in Fall, followed by "The Indigo Disk" in Winter.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
