Today kicked off with some pretty unfortunate news about Naughty Dog's upcoming game, The Last of Us 2. Fans had been hoping to play the game in May, but The Last of Us 2 has now been delayed indefinitely due to logistic concerns. However, Sony has revealed new screenshots from the game following the delay, softening the blow to some degree.

The screenshots offer a few excellent looks at the game, from a much older Joel– and one that appears to show a younger Joel playing guitar– as well as a few looks at intimate moments between characters. As expected, the screenshots are highly detailed, and easily one of the PlayStation 4's best-looking games yet. The screenshots don't seem to spoil any major narrative beats, though it may be best to avoid them for those that want a completely fresh experience whenever Last of Us 2 releases.

While The Last of Us 2's delay is unfortunate, and game delays in 2020 will likely be happening frequently due to the coronavirus pandemic, it will likely mean an even more polished experience when the game does launch. With that being the case, The Last of Us 2 may very well be a contender for the Game of the Year, if it still manages to release before the end of 2020.

Fans can only hope that the game releases sooner rather than later, but given that no new date was announced, things are largely uncertain thus far. Of course, it seems likely that the game will launch before the PS5, which slated for this holiday season, as launching it for PS4 and not PS5, despite the PS5's backward compatibility, wouldn't make a ton of sense.

It remains to be seen what other games may be delayed further into the year, but fans may want to prepare for everything to potentially be pushed back, as it's possible that many of 2020's other most anticipated games will be delayed now, which is unfortunate but does make it a good time to clear out backlogs. Hopefully, Sony will also continue to share more Last of Us 2 screenshots, especially with the game being delayed.
