A brand-new James Bond video game titled Cypher 007 is coming to Apple Arcade this month. The legendary super spy of literature and cinema fame has had plenty of licensed video games over the decades, with the most notable one being the iconic GoldenEye 007 for the Nintendo 64. This FPS tie-in to the 1995 film of the same name became one of the defining games of the N64 generation and led to a host of other titles starring James Bond in his many different cinematic incarnations.

In November 2020, IO Interactive of Hitman and Kane and Lynch fame announced its work on yet another James Bond video game under the tentative title of Project 007. Very little is officially known about this new Bond title, except that its single-player narrative will be a completely original tale that tells the origin of the legendary spy with a penchant for high-tech gadgets and shaken martinis. Fans have spent the last few years speculating on Project 007’s gameplay and wondering if IO Interactive will follow in the first-person shooter footsteps of GoldenEye or chart a new course for Agent 007.

Tilting Point - the publisher of SpongeBob: Krusty Cook-Off and Star Trek Timelines - is about to release a new James Bond mobile game called Cypher 007 on Apple Arcade later this month. This top-down isometric action title will put players in the role of 007 as he works to take down the criminal organization SPECTRE and its leader Ernst Blofeld by sneaking and fighting his way across several classic James Bond moments and locations.

As shown in the recently released Cypher 007 YouTube trailer, players will have to use stealth to avoid SPECTRE’s forces, as well as fight them off with melee attacks. No James Bond gaming experience would be complete without gadgets, and 007 is shown using an electric-shooting watch to deactivate security cameras and a remote-controlled drone to survey areas ahead of him. Cypher 007 seems to have vehicle segments as well, as Bond can be seen commandeering a helicopter to gun down SPECTRE bases. The trailer ends with the game’s release date, revealing that Cypher 007 will launch for Apple Arcade on September 29.

Both Cypher 007 and IO Interactive’s Project 007 come during a transitional period for the long-running James Bond franchise, with longtime Bond actor Daniel Craig stepping down from the role and the internet awash in rumors and speculation about who will take his place in the next 007 movie. In the meantime, Cypher 007 looks to offer a promising top-down action/stealth experience to hold eager fans over until more information about Project 007 is revealed.
