A new trailer has been released for the next two live-action Fullmetal Alchemist movies, called Fullmetal Alchemist: Final Chapter - The Final Scar and Fullmetal Alchemist: The Final Chapter - The Last Transmutation. The highlight of this new trailer is the 15 characters who fans are getting a good first look at.

The first Fullmetal Alchemist live-action movie came to cinemas in Japan back on December 1st, 2017. Fans have been waiting over four years for a good look at the next films, with little knowledge of what was coming next (with only a new manga by the same author in the meantime). That ended this past Wednesday when the official website for the Fullmetal Alchemist films dropped this new trailer.

In the trailer, fans can see 15 new characters, including the complicated character Van Hohenheim (Seiyou Uchino), along with Scar (Mackenyu Arata), Lan Fan (Yuina Kuroshima), Ling Yao (Keisuke Watanabe), Solf J. Kimblee (Yuki Yamada), King Bradley (Hiroshi Tachi), Alex Louis Armstrong (Kouji Yamamoto), Olivier Mira Armstrong (Chiaki Kuriyama), Trisha Elric (Yukie Nakama), Pinako Rockbell (Jun Fubuki), Yuriy Rockbell (Naohito Fujiki), Sarah Rockbell (Kaoru Okunuki), Selim Bradley (Kokoro Terada), May Chang (Long Meng Rou), and Izumi Curtis (Haruhi Ryouga). This is a huge new cast list, with a lot of beloved characters making their first appearances in the live action Fullmetal Alchemist films.

In addition to all of these new characters, all the main characters and actors will be returning for the next two Fullmetal Alchemist movies. Ryousuke Yamada will return as Edward Elric, Atomu Mizuishi as Alphonse Elric, Tsubasa Honda as Winry Rockbell, Dean Fujioka as Roy Mustang, Misako Renbutsu as Riza Hawkeye, and Ryuta Sato as Maes Hughes. Kanata Hongou will also return as Envy and Shinji Uchiyama as Gluttony, the only two homunculi in the first film (though Greed will be coming to join them in these sequels.)

With two films crammed into one trailer, there is not much information available about the next two Fullmetal Alchemist films yet. Fullmetal Alchemist: Final Chapter - The Final Scar, the second film in the series, will follow the story arc of Edward's conflicts with Scar. Fullmetal Alchemist: The Final Chapter - The Last Transmutation, the final film in the trilogy, will bring the anime's final battle to the big screen. Many anime take us on emotional roller coaster rides, and Fullmetal Alchemist does exactly that.

Admittedly, the first film in the series, simply titled Fullmetal Alchemist, had very mixed reviews. The original anime remains a favorite for anime fans around the world, which makes it disappointing that the live-action film was not able to live up to the same high status. That hasn't kept fans from being excited about their first looks at so many new characters, though, so hopefully the second and third films can save the franchise. They are coming out only a little more than a month apart, so at least fans will not have to wait four years between films this time.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Final Chapter - The Final Scar releases May 20th, 2022 in Japan. Fullmetal Alchemist: The Final Chapter - The Last Transmutation releases June 24th, 2022 in Japan.
