While it's been referred to as the hub of all things pop culture for a little while now thanks to its countless crossovers, Fortnite has recently undergone a pretty huge evolution, becoming far more than just a live-service battle royale game. At the start of Fortnite Chapter 5, Epic Games announced that three new game modes would be coming to Fortnite, including its long-rumored LEGO mode, a kart racer made by the Rocket League developers, and a rhythm game developed by Rock Band's original studio.

Coming to the game within just a few days of one another, these new Fortnite experiences are far more than just extra modes, with Epic seeing them as entirely new games that just happen to be running inside of Fortnite, and the sheer scale of these modes definitely suggests that. Naturally, these new modes have done incredibly well, with the LEGO Fortnite survival mode racking up a higher player count than even the standard battle royale mode during its first week of release. It's clear that these modes are here to stay, and it would only make sense for Fortnite to keep adding new modes based on new genres. If so, there are a few that should be next up to bat.

Overwatch 2 is set to collaborate with several properties throughout 2024, though there are some clear candidates for its video game crossover.

A Fortnite Sports Game

When Wii Sports released alongside Nintendo's record-breaking console back in 2006, it took the world by storm. Collecting a total of five popular games, Wii Sports delivered an intuitive and accessible video game experience like no other, and the industry has been looking to capture that same type of magic ever since, with even the recent Nintendo Switch Sports failing to do so.

But if anyone's going to be the one to do it now, it'll be Fortnite. Having already dabbled with sports crossovers in the past such as the NFL and various soccer authorities, Fortnite seems in a good position to develop some kind of sports game, and while fans would turn up for a basketball, football, or soccer game inside Fortnite, one Wii Sports-like mode that collected all those sports together could be something really special.

A Fortnite Fighting Game

Another genre that would perfectly suit Fortnite's new experimental game modes would be the fighting game genre. Though it would take some real work to get its gameplay right, a Fortnite fighting game would have a ton of potential. Fortnite already has a pretty vast roster of original characters to work with for a fighting game, but that list gets even bigger and more impressive when crossover skins are included. Fortnite's recent LEGO mode has seemingly proven that crossover skins can come to these extra modes, which would pave the way for potentially the biggest crossover fighting game ever made, with characters from across movies, TV, and fellow video games all being represented within the game.

A Fortnite Survival Horror Game

One of the most popular trends in gaming over the last few years, and one that only continues to grow in popularity thanks to recent games like Lethal Company, is the co-op survival horror game. 2020's Phasmophobia was the first game to really popularize this genre, tasking players with hunting down paranormal threats and banishing them from existence as a team. Of course, with Fortnite primarily being a family-friendly game there couldn't be too much violence or gore, but a cartoon-y co-op survival horror mode could work quite well in Fortnite, especially if it came out around Halloween.
