During the latest Nintendo Direct event, Nintendo revealed that a brand new Fire Emblem game was in development, but it wasn't something fans expected. Instead of a traditional, turn-based strategy Fire Emblem game, Nintendo announced Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, a musou spin-off of Fire Emblem: Three Houses made in the style of the Dynasty Warriors games. Those wanting a traditional Fire Emblem experience may have been disappointed by the news, but it seems that there is indeed a new main series Fire Emblem game on the way, if a reputable Nintendo insider is to be believed.

Nintendo insider Emily Rogers has claimed that Intelligent Systems has been working on a new Fire Emblem game. Rogers describes the game as a "wild card," speculating that it will potentially release in October 2022 or early 2023. Rogers said that the game is "nearly finished with its development" and has been in the works for over three years at Intelligent Systems and a support studio.

Rogers addressed the concern that Nintendo might not be willing to release two Fire Emblem games in the same year, even if one is a Dynasty Warriors-style spin-off like Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. Rogers pointed out that Nintendo has released two Fire Emblem games in the same year before, like when it released the original Fire Emblem Warriors in 2017 alongside Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia.

Fire Emblem Three Houses - RPG With Great Romances

Rogers said that it's possible that Nintendo will think its fall 2022 lineup has enough content between Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Bayonetta 3 and decide to move the new Fire Emblem game to early 2023 based on that. However, Rogers believes that it may be better for Nintendo's sales if the new Fire Emblem game were paired with Bayonetta 3, as she doesn't think that Bayonetta 3 can "carry an entire month on its own." She added that the rumored Metroid Prime HD would be another good game to pair with Bayonetta 3 if Fire Emblem is off the table.

Obviously fans should take this information with a grain of salt. Rogers has proven to be one of the most reliable Nintendo insiders and leakers there is, but it's always best to wait for an official announcement before getting too excited about possible new game releases. That being said, Rogers is not the only one who's claimed that a new main series Fire Emblem game is in the works, and so it wouldn't be all that surprising to find out its real.

Fire Emblem is rumored to be in development for Nintendo Switch.
