Square Enix announced a new entry in its RPG series Dragon Quest Monsters is currently in development for the Nintendo Switch. Square Enix, the renowned studio known for its RPG franchises like Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and Dragon Quest, has plans to set players off on another adventure in celebration of Dragon Quest Monsters' 25th anniversary.

The Nintendo Switch is home to some of the best turn-based RPGs, including titles from the Dragon Quest franchise. The Dragon Quest Monsters series is a spin-off of Dragon Quest. Unlike the mainline games, Dragon Quest Monsters games are Pokemon-like. Players capture, breed, and battle with their monsters. The Nintendo Switch does not have any Dragon Quest Monsters titles in its library other than Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry’s Wonderland RETRO, which was released only in Japan in 2019. Square Enix's recent announcement will change that.

Square Enix celebrated the 25th anniversary of Dragon Quest Monsters with an official trailer showcasing footage from Dragon Quest Monsters titles, including a clip from one of its remakes for the Nintendo 3DS that was never released outside of Japan. The end of the trailer teases a new game with "so get ready for a new adventure" and announces that a Dragon Quest Monsters title is in development for the Nintendo Switch. No other new information has yet to be announced other than the trailer and its 25th-anniversary artwork.

Square Enix looks to be working hard with how many titles it is currently developing such as Final Fantasy 16, its upcoming Splatoon-like shooter Foamstars, and Dragon Quest 3’s HD-2D Remake that is currently in development. From classic titles and retro remakes to modern mainline games and spin-offs there are plenty of games for Dragon Quest fans, new and old, with varying tastes to play on the Nintendo Switch. There is one highly anticipated title in particular that fans are eager to play.

While Dragon Quest fans have another title in the Dragon Quest series to look forward to, they are still speculating when more information about the long-awaited Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate will be announced. The developers' silence on Dragon Quest 12 has been concerning to fans who have been waiting since 2021 for more information.
