The 3D arena fighting game subseries is making a comeback after over 15 years since its last mainline console entry. The new DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi game's reveal trailer was brief, showing off Goku transforming into his Super Saiyan Blue form, rendered in a sleek cel-shaded anime art style similar to Dragon Ball FighterZ.

After this reveal trailer was dropped, Bandai Namco didn't give fans many updates regarding this new Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi game. There were a few rumors throughout the following months, such as how one of the English voice actors from the Dragon Ball anime did some work for an unspecified game that "involves a lot of screaming," or how the game was rumored to release sooner than expected. The latest update involving the game hints towards the game's progress, along with how fans might hear more about the game soon.

Bandai Namco recently filed a trademark for the name "Sparking! Zero" in the United States, which is the name of the Budokai Tenkaichii subseries in Japan. 2007's Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3, for example, was titled Dragon Ball Z: Sparking! Meteor. The trademark also specifically outlines it for a good and service, along with the description of it being "downloadable video game software."

This new Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi game was initially announced without a title, release date, or platforms, so this trademark could point to how "Dragon Ball Z: Sparking! Zero" could be the game's title in Japan, based on past titles in the series. The English version of the reveal trailer previously said "a new Budokai Tenkaichi begins" so it's possible that the moniker will be retained when localized in the West. Based on the "Zero" part of its name, the subtitle of "Sparking! Zero" could also hint at how the game could possibly be a soft reboot.

Other prominent rumors include the roster of this new Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi game, where it will feature a bunch of new characters introduced in Dragon Ball Super, such as the Pride Troopers from the Tournament of Power arc. This same leaker states that it would be one of the biggest rosters in Dragon Ball's gaming history, even surpassing Xenoverse 2's size after DLC. That said, all of this is still rumor and speculation, so fans should take this information with a grain of salt until an official announcement about its content and title from Bandai Namco is given.
