A new job listing from A Plague Tale developer Asobo Studio suggests that a new entry is in the works. This small series had a bit of a cult following in the beginning, but the game would explode in popularity in a short amount of time, leading to a sequel being produced. Reviews for A Plague Tale: Requiem have been highly acclaimed, showing how the series has evolved while retaining what makes it great. The most notable aspects indicate that it all adds up to an emotional experience, especially its ending.

According to the game's director, Kevin Choteau, A Plague Tale: Requiem marked the end of the series. It should be noted that Choteau believes that the series ended at Requiem "for now," and that the development team would look at the game's reception before making any decisions. Considering A Plague Tale: Requiem won a number of awards at The Game Awards 2022 alongside its acclaimed critical reception after launch, it seems like it is leading to a new game in the series.

According to a recent job listing on Asobo Studio's website, it has a number of positions open, including an Engine Programmer, IA Programmer, and Senior Game Designer, which indicates it is looking to "strengthen the team" for a title that uses the A Plague Tale IP. Some of the requirements involve candidates needing veteran experience, along with knowledge of both A Plague Tale: Innocence and A Plague Tale: Requiem in terms of its gameplay and story.

Details of this project are limited, with the studio currently in the pre-production phase, meaning this game is currently very early in development. In a retrospective interview about A Plague Tale, Choteau stated that he doesn't know whether the team would be ready for a third game, along with the focus likely moving away from the rat-focused premise and shifting to Amicia's mission. Despite that, he wishes to continue and make the next games they develop into something even better.

It's unknown if this new game will be a full-on third entry or something different like a prequel or side story that takes place within the same universe. Regardless, A Plague Tale seems to be continuing on in some form, with work already having started. With Asobo Studio's high pedigree and inclination for narrative-driven adventure, it seems like it's aiming to capitalize on its recent success.

A Plague Tale: Requiem is now available for PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
