Jacob Romero was cast as Usopp in Netflix's One Piece Live Action adaptation and it goes without saying that he is one of the castings that fans will be most excited about, given that he fits Usopp so perfectly. Being a beloved character and a part of the East Blue Five of the Straw Hat Pirates, Usopp is going to be quite a challenge for Jacob Romero to bring to life, however, fans hope that the actor is up to the task and delivers.

Judging from the glimpse that fans got of him in the teaser trailer, there is a lot to be excited about. However, fans shouldn't expect Jacob Romero's Usopp to be exactly the same as the one they are used to seeing in the manga. There are bound to be some differences between the two versions of the character.

5 The Nose

One Piece Live Action Usopp Nose

The first and most obvious thing that fans will notice that is different between the two characters are their noses. Usopp is commonly known as Long Nose in the manga and this is one of the most defining parts of his character design. In Netflix's One Piece Live Action series, he does not have a long nose and that is for the better.

A long nose prop will certainly not bode well for the live-action series. Props often end up looking weird and it is much better for Usopp to have a regular nose in One Piece Live Action. At the end of the day, fans want the characters to look natural in the live-action adaptation instead of it looking like a badly attempted cosplay.

4 The Physique

One of the most interesting things about Jacob Romero's Usopp is that his physique is much more well-defined compared to the original character in the East Blue Saga of the manga. In the manga, Usopp Weakling Trio, which consists of him, Nami, and Chopper. Usopp is physically weak and usually, doesn't rely on close close-quarter combats at all. In fact, he's terrible at it and has hardly ever used it. This Is very well reflected in his physical appearance before the timeskip as he is quite skinny.

Jacob Romero's Usopp is anything but skinny. He has a very well-defined physique, which makes it a bit hard to believe that he is just weak, to begin with. Perhaps, his version of Usopp will be stronger than what fans expect him to be, or, his physique is just for show and he is just as weak as the original Usopp.

3 The Outfits

One Piece Live Action Outfits

One of the most interesting changes that Netflix's One Piece Live Action adaptation has made is related to the outfits of the characters. In Usopp's case, he is seen wearing brown overalls in the vast majority of the East Blue saga. Fans don't really get to see him change his outfits at all, however, in Netflix's One Piece Live Action adaptation, Usopp will be seen in different outfits. While this might be a rather strange change for some fans, it must be noted that these outfits aren't randomly decided for the characters.

In fact, they have directly been taken from volume covers and colorspreads that Oda has drawn. This means that the very outfits that Usopp has donned across the many spreads that Oda has drawn will show themselves in the live-action adaptation of One Piece. Although a small touch, it is something that goes to show that a lot of care has been put into making One Piece Live Action.

2 The Age

Usopp (One Piece)

Naturally, one of the biggest changes that Netflix will have to make to their characters when compared to their manga counterparts is their ages. At the beginning of his journey, Usopp is 17 and Jacob Romero, the actor playing him in One Piece Live Action is currently 26. While that isn't a problem for the first season of the story, if One Piece Live Action continues, by the time it reaches season 3 or season 4, the actor will be well into his 30s, which isn't quite accurate to that manga version.

One thing that Netflix can do to remedy this is simply age up the characters in their version of One Piece and since it is aimed at a mature audience anyway, this shouldn't be much of a concern to the fans. Nonetheless, this change between Usopp's character in the manga and the Netflix Live Action series does exist, as it does for every other character.

1 Maturity

Usopp Shadapp character with another character

Oftentimes, Usopp is used for humor by Oda in the manga. He's one of the funniest members of the crew and, being a part of the Weakling Trio just goes to solidify that even further. Has quite a few gags attached to him and lying is one of them. While this gag is going to be prevalent in Jacob Romero's Usopp as well, fans should expect his Usopp to be a bit more mature. This is down to the fact that Netflix's version of One Piece is aimed at a more mature audience instead of kids, which is what Oda primarily targets with his manga.

To that end, the Netflix One Piece Live Action seriesis going to be a bit more mature. All characters that fans see in the story are going to be affected by this and Usopp is no different. Fans should expect Usopp to be more mature, however, not so different that he becomes unrecognizable from his original character. Usopp will be funny and joke around, however, when push comes to shove, he might as well be reliable in this version of One Piece.
