Highlights

  • Nami's introduction is different in the live-action series, as she is introduced in the Romance Dawn arc instead of the Orange Town arc.
  • Mohji's role is diminished in the live-action series, with his entire role being cut out, including his fight with Luffy.
  • Richie, Mohji's pet lion, is completely removed from the live-action series, despite being important in the manga as part of Buggy's search for his body.

Netflix's One Piece Live Action series was released recently and was met with lots of plaudits from the fans. The series has been an overwhelming success and much of that is down to the fact that it follows the source material very well, as expected, given Oda's crucial involvement in the project.

That said, the One Piece Live Action seriesdoes make changes here and there to every arc, just so it works better in a live-action adaptation. Orange Town, the arc where fans are introduced to Buggy, is no different.

10 Nami's Introduction

Quite easily one of the biggest differences between the Orange Town Arc in the original manga and the live-action adaptation of One Piece is Nami's introduction.

Nami is introduced to the fans for the first time in this arc in the manga. In the live-action series, Nami is introduced in the Romance Dawn arc instead and makes her way to Orange Town along with the Straw Hat Pirates.

9 Mohji's Role

Mohji Opla

Mohji is one of the most important characters in the Orange Town arc. He is the First Mate of the Buggy Pirates and, strangely enough, he was not given a pronounced role in the live-action series.

Mohji did appear in the arc, however, his entire role was cut out. In the manga, he ends up fighting against Luffy and gets beaten down by him quite badly.

8 Richie's Absence

Richie and Mohji in One Piece

While Mohji sees his role get cut short in the One Piece Live Action series, Richie is completely removed instead.

Richie is Mohji's pet lion that he uses in combat. Richie is somewhat important as not only does he aid him while fighting but he is also very important when it comes to the cover story where Buggy is in search of his body.

7 The Map Of The Grand Line

In the One Piece Live Action series, the map of the Grand Line is already with Luffy at the beginning of the arc. He swallows it just so Buggy cannot get his hands on it.

In the original series, the map of the Grand Line belongs to Buggy and Nami is the one who steals it from him. Later, Nami frames Luffy and uses this opportunity to gain Buggy's trust and get his loot.

6 Cabaji's Connection To Zoro

Cabaji of Buggy Pirates

A very interesting change that was made to the live-action series of One Piece is the fact that Cabaji was given an older brother.

His older brother ends up dying at the hands of Zoro, the bounty hunter. According to Cabaji, Zoro cut his head off and shoved it in a bag to collect his bounty. This brother is non-existent in the original series.

5 Buggy's Role

Buggy is the main antagonist of the Orange Town arc of One Piece. While he does his job perfectly in the live-action adaptation, he is very different when compared to the version of him in the manga.

Buggy gives Luffy a much tougher fight in the live-action series and even attempts to drown him. His performance is absolutely stellar, which is why fans absolutely love him so far.

4 Shanks And Buggy's Flashback

Shanks Accidentally Making Buggy Eat His Devil Fruit

Surprisingly, Shanks and Buggy's flashback did not make it into the One Piece Live Action series. While Buggy does mention that he shares a bond with Shanks, fans do not get to see them aboard the Oro Jackson.

Shanks accidentally causes Buggy to eat the Bara Bara no Mi. Essentially, Buggy does not hold a grudge against Shanks for making him eat the fruit in the live action.

3 Citizens Of Orange Town

Orange Town OPLA

The citizens of Orange Town play a very different role in the live-action series than they do in the manga. In the manga, the vast majority of the citizens have abandoned Orange Town because of the chaos caused by the Buggy Pirates.

In the live-action series, Buggy successfully manages to round up all the citizens and keeps them in his clown carnival, where he forcibly makes them applaud and laugh at his antics, giving him more of a maniacal touch.

2 Boodle

Boodle Opla

Boodle, the mayor of Orange Town, also plays a very significant role in the manga arc. Boodle is responsible for creating Orange Town and he started the process around 40 years ago. He also wants to fight Buggy head-on in the manga.

In the live-action series, Boodle is one of the prisoners that Buggy rounds up and only plays a short role at the end.

1 Chouchou

Chouchou Opla

Chouchou is a beloved dog that every One Piece fan absolutely adores. This dog is introduced in the Orange Town arc where it's revealed to the fans that he has been waiting for his owner for a long time outside the pet shop.

His entire story is revealed to the fans and his treasure, which is the pet shop where he was with his owner, plays a significant role and is juxtaposed with Luffy's treasure. Sadly, while Chouchou is in the live-action adaptation of One Piece, he does not play a big role at all.

One Piece Live Action is available to watch on Netflix.
