Netflix's One Piece Live Action adaptation is on the horizon now and fans recently got a sneak peek at it in the first teaser trailer that dropped a few days ago. It is safe to say that the One Piece Live Action series is shaping up to be a good and faithful adaptation and although it is not perfect, judging by the trailer, there is a lot to look forward to.

One of the highlights of the teaser trailer was none other than Buggy, a character who fans are very well familiar with. Despite being in the shot for just a few seconds, Buggy managed to capture the attention of the fans more than many other characters who featured in the trailer, and for all the right reasons.

6 The Actor

Fans are very well familiar with the main cast of Netflix's One Piece Live Action adaptation. The Straw Hat Pirates are very beloved among the fans and the vast majority of them know their names very well. Buggy, however, is not known nearly as well. Given that he really captured the attention of the fans in the teaser trailer, it must be brought to light that Buggy is played by the 35-year-old actor named Jeff Ward.

It appears that Jeff has captured the essence of buggies character very well and taken it up a notch by making him more fearsome and intimidating than he ever was in the original manga and the anime.

5 His Pirate Crew

Buggy And Alvida From One Piece

Buggy is going to be one of the main antagonists in the first season of Netflix's One Piece Live Action adaptation. He's going to make his way into the series likely in the third episode, which covers the events of the Orange Town arc. In Orange Town, Buggy is the main antagonist and fans will get to see him pose a great challenge to the Straw Hat Pirates, especially Luffy.

Buggy captains a powerful pirate crew named the Buggy Pirates and they are going to be very important in the story moving forward. New fans who are just getting into One Piece should expect Buggy to pop up in the series every now and then, given how iconic he is.

4 His Devil Fruit

Monkey D. Luffy was seen stretching in the teaser trailer of Netflix's One Piece Live Action series. Most fans are already familiar with the fact that Luffy has eaten a Devil Fruit that allows him to stretch like rubber. Similarly, Buggy has also eaten a Devil Fruit. His Devil Fruit is called the Bari Bari no Mi, or the Chop Chop Fruit.

This fruit allows Buggy to split his body into several parts and it also makes him impervious to slashing attacks. Buggy's Devil Fruit is menacing, at least in the beginning of the story. Given that he has a Devil Fruit just like Luffy, it is no surprise that he will pose quite a challenge for everyone's favorite Straw Hat Pirate.

3 The Evil Look

While fans know Buggy to be somewhat of a funny character who often brings comedic relief in serious situations going on in the story, Buggy is actually portrayed to be very different in Netflix's One Piece Live Action adaptation of the story. In the teaser trailer, Buggy actually looks very menacing and evil.

This is one of the main reasons why he caught the attention of the fans so much. Given that the series is going to be more mature, since it is aimed at an older audience, fans shouldn't be surprised to see a much more dangerous version of Buggy in Netflix's One Piece Live Action series. It will be interesting to see how much different this version of Buggy is going to be and what role he will play in the story moving forward.

2 The Connection To Shanks

Shanks one piece (2)

Fans of One Piece are very well familiar with Red-Haired Shanks, the legendary figure who put Luffy on his path to becoming the Pirate King. While new fans will not be aware of who Shanks is just yet, the very first episode of the story will likely have them very intrigued by this character.

As Buggy appears later on in the story, fans will find out that he is actually connected to Shanks. Buggy and Shanks were apprentices on the same pirate crew long ago. Buggy also holds a grudge against Shanks because he considers him to be the main reason why he can't swim today. Their relationship will be explored in depth in Netflix's One Piece Live Action adaptation of the story.

1 The Nose

Buggy The Clown (One Piece)

While fans of the anime and the manga are already aware of the fact that Buggy has a giant red nose, many new fans might think that he is actually wearing a prosthetic. That, in fact, is not true at all. Buggy naturally has a giant, red, round nose. He is actually very insecure about it and immediately takes offense when someone talks about it.

In Netflix's One Piece Live Action adaptation, his nose seems even more realistic and the texture is very apparent as well. The makeup team has gone above and beyond in trying to replicate a real nose look for Buggy.

Netflix's One Piece Live Action series is all set to be released on August 31, 2023.
