For fans of The Witcher, Christmas must indeed be the most wonderful time of the year, as it was near the holidays in 2019 when the series made its debut on Netflix. Since then, the streaming giant’s adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels has become the fantasy series to watch right now.

With a third season all but confirmed for The Witcher, fans’ questions have turned to just when they will get to enjoy season 2, or at least get a full trailer showing what the future holds for Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia, a matter that’s only worsened by the show’s scheduling mishaps, whether they be due to COVID-19 or just Cavill getting hurt on set.

Perhaps for that very reason, The Witcher’s production team has tasked their social media wizards with promoting what they've called #Witchmas, a celebration where fans are polled on whether they would rather get a piece of specific info on the show or abide by the Law of Surprise that sealed Geralt’s fate. For the latest tweet, fans of course chose surprise and got the second entry in The Witcher’s bestiary.

This past May Netflix had uploaded a similar video on their YouTube channel which went into great detail on the origins and some miscellaneous facts around the monsters seen in the first half of season 1. This time around, the bestiary's chapter two goes over basilisks, hirikkas (or maybe Gremlins for that matter), shape-shifting dragons, ghouls, and poleviks, all with commentary from showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich.

Netflix’s first cryptozoology video got over 1.4m views on YouTube, proving The Witcher’s lore and inspirations are something fans are deeply interested in. Especially when done so masterfully by taking real-world examples or exploring the historical origins of just how humans came up with the sometimes thousand-year-old ideas that inspired such creatures.

It’s day three of Witchmas and things just keep getting better, after day two delivered some dashing pictures of Joey Batey as Jaskier, getting an 11 minute video filled with fun facts and Witcher lore is quite the treat. The only question is what kind of internet surprise awaits fans on day four of Witchmas?

The Witcher season two is coming to Netflix in 2021.
